Hidden Gems: Meet Summer Bowers of Cruise Planners – Tropics and Beyond

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Bowers.

Hi Summer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Honestly, I got my start as a travel blogger, documenting my own personal trips through writing and photography. It was my creative outlet, a way to share the places I loved and the little moments that made each trip special. Over time, people started coming to me for advice — where to go, what to do, how to make it all come together — and that’s when I realized I could turn this passion into something bigger.

That eventually led me to become a travel advisor. I started planning trips for others the same way I planned my own…thoughtfully, personally, and with an eye for both adventure and comfort. Today, I help people plan everything from bucket-list European getaways to romantic anniversaries in Banff to group dive trips to see hammerhead sharks in Bimini.

I still love storytelling…whether that’s through photography, reels, or travel tips on social media — and I’m always looking for ways to inspire people to take that next trip. For me, it’s about more than just travel; it’s about creating meaningful experiences that stick with you long after you’re home.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road, but I think that’s part of what’s shaped me the most. In the last eight years, we’ve moved and lived in three different countries (Italy, Germany & the United States). That’s been both incredible and incredibly challenging. Starting over in new places, navigating different cultures, and building community from scratch each time has taught me a lot about adaptability and how to make the most of unfamiliar ground.

Motherhood has also had a huge impact on who I am, both personally and professionally. I’ve had to learn how to juggle a lot, especially during military deployments when I’m solo parenting and trying to keep everything running at home while also growing a business. It’s a constant balancing act, and some days feel like too much. But those experiences have made me more intentional in how I work, how I travel, and how I connect with others.

I’ve learned to embrace flexibility, trust my instincts, and keep moving forward even when things feel messy or uncertain. And honestly, those are the same qualities that make me a better travel advisor. Life doesn’t always go according to plan, and travel rarely does either, but there’s still so much beauty and joy to be found along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of Cruise Planners – Tropics and Beyond. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a travel advisor and co-owner of Cruise Planners – Tropics and Beyond, and at the heart of my business is one simple goal: to help people create meaningful, memory-filled travel experiences. I plan everything from family road trips and romantic getaways to hosted group dive adventures. I specialize in personal, custom travel planning; whether that means a fully mapped-out road trip through Europe or a curated all-inclusive getaway with just the right balance of food, excursions, and downtime.

What sets my brand apart is how personal it is. I’ve lived all over the world, I travel often with my own family, and I share a lot of those experiences on social media. That behind-the-scenes perspective helps me connect with my clients and audience on a real level. I’m not just handing over a list of recommendations…I’m giving advice that’s rooted in experience and tailored to what you want from your trip.

I’m especially proud of the way my brand blends inspiration with action. It’s not just about the dream, it’s about helping people actually make it happen on whatever budget they have. Whether that’s navigating logistics, maximizing travel rewards, or finding those hidden-gem moments that make a trip unforgettable, I want people to feel seen and supported throughout the process.

At the end of the day, my brand is about travel that fits real life: thoughtful, flexible, and full of joy.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that might surprise people is how much of this business has been built during nap times, late nights, and in the in-between moments of everyday life. From the outside, it might look polished and put together, but behind the scenes, it’s often a mix of motherhood, military life, and making it work.

People might also be surprised to know that I didn’t come from a travel industry background. I started by simply sharing my own trips through writing and photography. Over time, it turned into something much bigger…a way to serve others, tell stories, and help people create experiences that matter.

So while I’m deeply passionate about travel, what really drives me is helping people feel confident saying “yes” to it, no matter their season of life.
