Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyanna Burrell.
Hi Kyanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally born and raised here in Colorado, I started Herbalism roots about five years ago in 2020, I’ve always had a huge passion for nature and plants in general. When I found out I could go to school for it and learn about all of the amazing plants we have and the endless medicine that they carry I was ecstatic. I was able to explore the science, and the botany of plants and medicine. It took me on a path of finding myself and being able to express how I feel through my herbal medicine and remedies. The plants help to ground me and remind me that we are all connected in one way or another. Staying in the present moment and being so appreciative of what we have all around us.
I started Sapphire Herbal Remedies two years ago, right after finishing my herbal school. At the time, I felt a deep calling — like the world needed more accessible, heart-centered healing. I wanted to create remedies that were rooted in nature, tradition, and care — something people could turn to when they needed grounding, comfort, or connection.
The name Sapphire is actually my middle name, so this business is a deeply personal extension of who I am. Sapphires symbolize healing, wisdom, and inner strength — all qualities I want people to feel when they use my products.
Now, I share my work at local markets all over the Denver area, which has been such a beautiful way to connect with the community. I love meeting people face-to-face, hearing their stories, and introducing them to the magic of herbal healing in real time. What began as a small dream has turned into something I pour my whole heart into, and I’m so grateful for the journey so far.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all — the road has had plenty of bumps, twists, and moments of doubt. Starting Sapphire Herbal Remedies has been a labor of love, but it hasn’t always been easy. There were times when I questioned if I was on the right path, especially when things felt overwhelming or when I was juggling work, school, and building a business at the same time.
One of the biggest challenges has been trusting my own voice — learning to believe that what I have to offer is valuable and needed. It’s easy to compare yourself to others or feel like you’re not doing enough. But the struggles have shaped me just as much as the successes. They’ve pushed me to grow, to stay grounded in my purpose, and to keep showing up — for myself, for my community, and for the people who find healing in what I create.
What’s helped me through it all is the support from my loved ones, my spiritual connection to the plants, and those little moments of encouragement — like a customer saying, “This tea helped me sleep,” or “Your blend made me feel so calm.” That’s when I remember why I started.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Outside of Sapphire Herbal Remedies, I work as a bartender — and that’s actually where a lot of my creativity comes alive! I love blending my knowledge of herbs into cocktails and mocktails, creating drinks that are not only delicious but also soothing, energizing, or grounding. Whether it’s a lavender-infused lemonade or a rosemary-honey spritzer, it’s such a joy to introduce people to the healing side of what they’re sipping. It’s like giving people a little bit of magic in a glass.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There are so many people who’ve poured into me, and I carry them with me every step of the way. My grandpa was such a huge support while I was in school — he believed in me so deeply, and even though he’s passed on, his encouragement still guides me. My parents have been my rock through it all. Their constant love, wisdom, and support — emotionally and practically — have kept me going, especially on the hard days. I wouldn’t be here without them, and I’m so grateful for everything they’ve done to help me grow.
My teachers in herbal school (Martin & Kim) opened up a whole world for me and helped me find my voice through plants and healing. I’m endlessly thankful for my family and friends who’ve cheered me on from the very beginning. And my boyfriend — his love and constant support keeps me grounded. Every bit of this journey is shared with them all.
And I have to give a special thank you to Brittney, who nominated me for this feature. We went through herbal school together, and now she’s doing incredible work with her own herbal business, Libre Botanicals, It means so much to be seen by someone who’s walked a similar path — this journey has brought so many beautiful connections into my life, and I’m so grateful.
