Daily Inspiration: Meet Alex VanLemmeren

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex VanLemmeren.

Hi Alex, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in the floral design business helping a friend when she needed an extra set of hands. Soon after, I took over the business and continued growing Wild Posies. After a few years of only doing weddings & events, I decided to take a giant leap and open a brick & mortar location. Wild Posies Floral & Plant Boutique opened May of 2023. At the shop we specialize in custom floral arrangements, beautiful houseplants, and a lovely variety of artisan gift items. I am also continuing to grow the wedding side of the business and also teach a handful of workshops throughout the year.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a small business is never a smooth ride. It’s more of a bumpy road with a lot of unexpected turns. I take all the struggles as growth and turn those situations into a learning experience. A few struggles I’ve dealt with is price increases with rent and inventory items, learning your audience, and learning to have balance in my life.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a floral designer more than anything dealing with my business. I’m most proud of being self taught and using my fine art background to truly create one of kind artistically inspired floral designs for my customers at the store and also the bride and grooms I have worked with over the years. Working with flowers to me is another medium I get to work with, using my hands and years of experience in the art world.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice is to put yourself out there. Never let fear get in the way of challenging yourself and making leaps in your life. I also surround myself with people who I admire and gain knowledge from.
