An Inspired Chat with Taiane Bozzay of Denver

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Taiane Bozzay. Check out our conversation below.

Taiane, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
As the owner of Made by Hand Cakes and a mom to a curious and energetic 16-month-old, my days are full—and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

My mornings start bright and early when my little one wakes up around 7:30 AM. We begin the day with breakfast together, followed by some playtime or a quick trip outside to enjoy the fresh air (and burn off some of that toddler energy!).

Nap time in the early afternoon is my golden window to work. I usually get 2 to 3 hours to dive into my cake orders—baking, decorating, or prepping flavors for the week ahead. As soon as my son is up, it’s all about him again: cuddles, playtime, meals, and attention.

Around 5 PM, my husband takes over the evening shift with our son, and I shift gears into dinner mode. After we all eat together and my husband handles bedtime, I head back to work in my kitchen until about 9 PM.

The days are intense—full of flour, frosting, and finger paints—but I feel incredibly lucky to do what I love while raising a little human I adore. It’s not always perfectly balanced, but it’s beautiful in its own way.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Taiane Bozzay, the owner of Made by Hand Cakes, a small cake business based in Denver. I make gourmet cakes completely from scratch, using high-quality ingredients and thoughtful flavor combinations. We offer delivery throughout the Denver area and nearby neighborhoods, making it easy for people to celebrate with something special.

I’m originally from Brazil, where I earned a degree in Agribusiness Engineering—but my true passion has always been in the kitchen. I’ve loved cooking and doing craft projects since I was a kid, and over time I found my creative outlet in baking.

What makes Made by Hand Cakes unique is the combination of flavor and care that goes into every cake. Whether it’s a birthday, a gift, or just a sweet moment shared with friends, I believe cake should always taste as good as it looks—and bring joy with every bite.

Right now, I’m focused on growing our collection of signature cakes and seasonal treats, and continuing to make it easy for people to order beautiful, delicious cakes right to their door.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Moving to another country meant starting over in many ways—learning a new culture, language, and building a new life from the ground up. Through all of that, my husband saw something in me that I couldn’t fully see yet. He believed in my creativity and passion before I had the confidence to turn it into a business.

He encouraged me every step of the way as I built Made by Hand Cakes—from the early experiments in our kitchen to delivering cakes around Denver. His support gave me the courage to believe in myself, and I’m so grateful for the way he’s always been by my side.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes—many times. In the beginning, it was really hard. Getting clients felt almost impossible, and sometimes people didn’t see the value in what I was offering. At the same time, I was learning so much—about baking at a professional level, running a business, and navigating everything as a new immigrant.

There were moments I questioned if it was really worth pursuing, especially when the effort felt bigger than the return. But deep down, I knew I loved what I was doing. Little by little, I started seeing progress—one happy customer at a time—and that gave me the motivation to keep going.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
For me, it’s the belief that food should be made from scratch, with care and real ingredients—just like my grandma used to make. I grew up in Brazil surrounded by homemade meals, where nothing came out of a box and everything had a story or tradition behind it. That value has stayed with me, and it’s something I protect fiercely in my cake business.

In a world where so much is overprocessed and rushed, I believe there’s something powerful—and deeply comforting—about food that’s handmade with intention. It’s not just about taste; it’s about love, memory, and connection.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I did everything with excellence—from the way I loved my family to the way I ran my business. That I was a dedicated wife, a present and loving mom, a caring daughter and friend, and someone who poured her heart into everything she did.

I want to be remembered as someone who gave her best—whether it was in a beautifully made cake or in the quiet, everyday moments that mattered most.
