Story & Lesson Highlights with Chris Ellis of Denver

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chris Ellis. Check out our conversation below.

Chris, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
2 part answer actually

1. My kids who are everything to me and who I would do anything for

2. My new found love and her mere presence that makes me happy

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Chris Ellis aka WYSE. I’m an artist , record label owner, producer , podcaster , and mixing engineer. I have a bachelors degree in audio production.

I have a company called LikeWyse Productions LLC that focuses on signing , managing , and distributing of artists and their records. Our label is boutique but have a very family oriented atmosphere. We care about the artists we work with and their goals for the future even past the music into branding.

I actually started the label in 2018 after being kicked out my apartment and living in a hotel. It was at that point I wanted to own something to call my own and ever since i haven’t looked back.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My first time at the age of 14 or 15 stepping on a stage and performing with the JB Band.

It was such an exhilarating feeling and experience and that’s when I truly knew I wanted to be an artist. I felt free to express myself and felt on top of the world

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely it was when I had lost my apartment and I had to go to a hotel for about a good four months and I barely had any money and I was trying to make it work and luckily, I had a great mom who kept pouring into me financially and spiritually and emotionally to where I can get back right and that’s when I started the record label. Also, when the time was very dark because I didn’t know where I was going mentally I didn’t have a clear enough vision. I just knew I wanted to do music.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
One of my favorite actors and that would be Denzel Washington. I admire him because he has such poise and such authenticity that it doesn’t matter what the music industry does. He is always going to remain true to him true to his values and his morals as a human being. Also, he has a very grounded reality with his wife and for God who he serves. He doesn’t let the industry consume him to be something that is not. He stays true to everything that he says he always gives positive motivational words.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop being afraid and start taking more chances , risks , for the legacy and life that I would want to leave for myself, my kids, and for everybody in the world that is inspired by me
