Hi Coach Be , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I’m most proud of right now that I’m building is my semi-pro basketball organization here in Colorado. Of course, nobody sees the everyday discipline and dedication it takes to run a complete organization. So, definitely proud of that.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Bettina Jones, but everyone calls me Coach Be. I have been living here in Colorado since 2017 and will continue to call this beautiful state my home. I have a semi pro basketball organization I started in 2020 with Denver Dynasty women’s semi pro team. As of today, Thy basketball Realm, features a women’s team in Denver Dynasty and a men’s team Colorado Realm who began competing in 2024. I’m also the league commissioner for the Denver branch of She Got Game Women’s Semi-Pro League based out of Memphis, TN. She Got Game also have branches in Nashville, Little Rock, Dallas, and Chicago. We look forward to bringing season 3 to the Maile High coming March 2026. I am also building my coaching resume abroad as I’m one of the assistant coaches for the Yerevan Wolves professional basketball team in Armenia. This adds another dimension of TBR that can help athletes succeed!
What makes TBR interesting is that we are a complete organization helping young athletes not only excel on the court and help offer opportunities abroad, but off of it as well. TBR is also partnered with AUA Charity which helps fight undergarment disparity in our communities in the Denver Metro Area. AUA origins are in Houston, TX but via TBR we have been able to bring those efforts to Colorado as well. So, TBR and its athletes are very involved in community efforts around the city even volunteering with other organizations in the state.
Right now, I’m preparing for season 3 of She Got Game League Denver & my 2nd season with the Yerevan Wolves. So, TBR is preparing for 2026 as the ladies of Dynasty took the year off and the men of Colorado Realm completed their first season. We’re gearing up for our final community events of 2025 and both teams are getting ready for an amazing 2026 season. TBR tryouts are in December, and potential players can now register at www.thyrealm.org
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Coach Be was a basketball player before the world told me I was better suited for Coaching and teaching. My dream was to be a professional player myself, but life took other turns and lead me here. I’m completely content in my calling for one because I knew talent was never the issue. Life happens.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I almost give up at times now. It’s really hard doing majority of this by yourself. Thats why I’m truly grateful for those around me that help me out in any way. The semi pro basketball market is not as polished as it can be and trying to make the right decisions at time can be challenging. TBR goal is to be a respected organization that players, sponsors, other organizations, and fans that would want to support and be part of our program. However, going into 2026 the confidence is really high, and respect is being earned.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I’m always the real version of myself no matter what or where I am. I think that’s key to the foundation of who I am. I know the shades throw people off but that’s who I am. Plus, the sun shines in our beautiful sate almost every day, so the shade is almost mandatory. But you’re always going to get the real Coach Be.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Definitely doing what I was born to do and that’s affect the game of basketball in a positive way. With TBR I’m able to do that on and off the court. However, my efforts in our communities are also part of what I was born to do. Growing up my mother was very active in our community politically and even part of the NAACP. So, you can say I’m definitely doing what I was born to do.
