An Inspired Chat with Tori Higdon of Arvada

Tori Higdon shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Tori, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up at 4:30 and immediately question why I do this to myself, then make coffee and sit in the quiet for thirty glorious minutes before the world starts making noise. After that, I wake my kids and spend the next stretch of time alternating between loving encouragement and yelling like a drill sergeant until breakfast is finally on the table.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a salon owner and hairstylist who’s been in the industry long enough to know it’s about way more than hair. My salon is part good hair, part therapy session, part comedy hour…sometimes all at once. I love creating a space where people feel comfortable enough to be themselves, whether they’re here for a big change or just a trim. I’m always working on keeping things fresh, staying on top of trends, and making sure my clients leave feeling better than when they came in

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I don’t think I’ve fully figured that out yet. I’ve been a lot of different versions of myself. Some I chose, some I felt pushed into, and I’m still sorting through which parts are actually me. Before I was told who I had to be, I was probably a little louder, a little weirder, and a lot less worried about whether it made sense to anyone else. I’m trying to get back to that.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Honestly, just not feeling like I’m enough. Not smart enough, not good enough, not whatever enough. It’s probably the one thing that’s kept me from going after stuff I should’ve just done

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’m not the same at all. When I’m not “on,” I’m weird as hell. My humor’s dark, and I tend to offend people on accident without even realizing it. The version most people see is filtered way down so it’s safe for public consumption.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I’ve learned most people are performing, even when they swear they’re not. There’s the version they let you see, and then there’s the rest. You usually only get the whole thing when they’re really comfortable with you or too tired to fake it. That’s why unfiltered moments are so addictive. They’re rare, and they make you realize nobody actually has it together. Some people are just better at pretending.
