We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kellyn Wells. Check out our conversation below.
Kellyn, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Spending time with my 16-month-old has been pure joy lately. Watching him discover the world reminds me to slow down and appreciate the simple, beautiful moments.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kellyn Wells, a board-certified hair colorist and certified hair loss practitioner with over 20 years in the beauty industry. I own a low-tox hair studio in Superior, Colorado, where I specialize in natural-looking color, seamless grow-outs, and scalp facials.
What makes my work unique is the way I blend artistry with wellness. I create personalized looks that fit seamlessly into each client’s life, using only clean, eco-conscious products, and I do it in a calm, welcoming space that smells like essential oils instead of chemicals. Hair health, my health, and my client’s health are at the heart of everything I do.
Lately, I’ve been especially passionate about helping clients through hair loss and scalp issues—whether it’s postpartum, stress-related, or just part of life—by offering both in-salon treatments and at-home rituals that are gentle, effective, and sustainable. My goal is always for clients to leave feeling more like themselves, only better.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
Definitely my mom. She’s the hardest worker I’ve ever known. She grew up as a coal miner’s daughter in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia and knew she wanted something different for her family. When I was just three months old, she packed us up and moved us out of the mountains—first to North Carolina, then to Indiana—so she and my dad could build their careers. She spent her whole career as a music teacher and still worked part-time jobs on weekends and summers. She never stopped, and she showed me that with hard work and heart, you can create the life you want.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell her, you don’t have to have it all figured out. Just trust yourself, work hard, and keep following what feels right—you’re going to create something beautiful. Life will get hard, and it will also be full of amazing moments, and that ebb and flow never really stops. The only thing you can count on is change, and that’s not a bad thing.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
For me, it’s all about lasting impact—especially when it comes to clean beauty and hair health. A fad might promise quick results or flashy trends, but a real shift improves how your hair feels, how your scalp responds, and how the products affect your overall health and the environment. I focus on changes that support long-term hair wellness and sustainability, because those are the things that truly matter and stick around.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
As a Libra rising, beauty literally feels like it was born with me—it wasn’t something I was taught. My mom and sister could care less about hair, clothes, or aesthetics, but not me. I was always doing hair—my dolls’ hair, dying my own hair—and I’ve loved fashion and makeup for as long as I can remember. I knew from a young age that I wanted to go to beauty school, and I’m so glad I did. After 20 years in this industry, I’ve never looked back or regretted it.
