Alyssa Block shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Alyssa, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Who are you learning from right now?
Right now I think I am learning the most from other cultures around the world. Traveling and trying food from different areas has really expanded my knowledge and helped me grow as a chef.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Alyssa Block, I am a private chef/caterer and business owner. I run Graze and Torreys. We take locally sourced Colorado ingredients and make them the star of local events. I am also a private chef for clients visiting Colorado.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think ego breaks the bonds between people. Understanding and compassion leads to reconnection in my opinion
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
It taught me that I can survive and it taught me to appreciate the high parts of life more fully.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
That working too hard is admirable. Life is about balance and enjoyment. I think too many buy into the trap of capitalism and believe the lie that working too hard and being busy equals success. I believe success is measured in the quality of your connections.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
When I feel out of balance and fatigue.
