Mary Schmidt shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Mary, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity. No matter how high one’s IQ may be, without integrity, they are perceived as not being genuine or authentic. With integrity, the rest falls into place. To sum it up, what do you want to be remembered for?
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mary L. Schmidt, and I have two pen names, S. Jackson and A. Raymond. As a multi-hyphenate, I grew up in a small USA town. As a registered nurse, I worked in specialty areas both locally (Colorado and Kansas) and around the USA. becoming disabled in 2013, I decided to expand creatively.
On good days, I drew and painted in oils. I’ve always created digital designs since 1995, and animations. I use a Wacom and Stylus for drawing, or simply graphite. Once recovered enough to be on a computer longer than 30 minutes at a time, I ventured into starting a blog, which is a very healthy blog. My blog started with art, and then came a bit more.
As I was able to branch out over the years, and I wrote a memoir, When Angels Fly. I had thought I would be a one book author, but things changed even more, and today I can write that I’ve written sixty-one books in many genres, since 2015. Now, I don’t post new art, but I have an art link. I use my blog, whenangelsfly.net , for links to my books, and I host blog posts for writers releasing a new book. and I post reviews of books I’ve read. I also offer free interview blog posts for those who would like to be interviewed.
My company, M. Schmidt Productions, is the umbrella under which I have my blog, art world, book world, and I create book covers, animations, trailers, static images, and complete layouts for customers worldwide. I do offer editing for those who wish to have me look at their book. My prices are lower than most as I understand how it is for many who write books with the sheer numbe of books going live each day.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Trust. That can be broken easily enough, and should one choose to rebuild that broken and trusted bond, it takes a lot of time, if ever one succeeds.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would make sure that my first two decades of life were happier than they were. I would make sure that I knew I was valued and loved. A worthy individual who participated in extracurricular activities in high school. I would make sure my child self knew I was truly loved by others, despite what my mother would say.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me now is the opposite of my first three decades of life. No longer introverted, I have no problem speaking about any topic, in front of any number of people, for as long as needed. Podcasting comes naturally, and I co-host weekly podcasts. I can easily make the show flow along and stay on track.

I’m past will regret. I regret not traveling to other countries and experiencing other cultures. Finding my roots.
