Chad, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been continuing my glass-making practice. Recently, I attended Dan Clayman’s class at Pilchuck Glass School and it was an incredible experience.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a commercial photographer who specializes in the hospitality industry. A Hyatt and Hilton brand-approved photographer, we work with properties and clients across the globe. Whether capturing food and beverage in restaurant spaces, energetic models in lifestyle shoots, or architectural moments at beautiful resorts my team and I bring energy and light to our sets. From production meetings and concept development, to execution and delivery of photo and video assets, we enjoy tackling projects large and small.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom was an entrepreneur and CEO in the welding supply industry; an entirely male-dominated trade when she took over from her father in the 60s. Homeschooled as a child, I was encouraged to start my own company as a learning opportunity. Chad’s Hats was created when I was nine years old, where I imported solar-paneled hats with fans I the brim from Hong Kong and sold them locally. My work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to take accountability and tough situations all stems from my mom. It has served me my entire life and career.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Just keep going. It does get better and failing forward is one of the best things you can do. Also, be kind and patient with yourself.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yup. What you see it pretty much what you get. I am unabashedly myself and attract that same positive energy to me with both friends and clients alike. Life’s too short to be anything but myself.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
My problem solving skills both in pre-production and on set. In hospitality, things change constantly and there is always something that comes up. In the 20 years that I’ve been shooting commercially, I’ve been able to navigate those spaces and I believe my clients appreciate that skillset and would miss that on-set energy.
