We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mark Wilson. Check out our conversation below.
Mark , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I’ll usually get going by making my son,Walter (6) some waffles and my daughter, Kensington (4) some cereal. Then get them all ready for school and drop them off. When I’ll arrive back home I’ll usually then make breakfast for my wife, Brittany and then dive into whatever work the days brings.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an independent Director/Producer, and together with my team at Reflect Entertainment, we create films with heart—stories that entertain while leaving a lasting impression. We put deep thought into every moment of the script, making sure each beat is given the care and justice it deserves on the big screen. Our company’s logo originates from my first film, REFLECT (2005). It represents the spirit of staying young, dream big, while never forgetting where you came from. That image has always stuck with me for the past 20 years and I love seeing it come up before each film. I could not produce the films without my producing partner/co-owner of Reflect Entertainment, Chris Retts. We’ve been in the filming trenches together and I have learned so much from him as work partner and as a friend.
We have a few feature films streaming now on Tubi, The Roku Channel and Amazon titled WADE IN THE WATER and THE PAINTED WARRIOR. We just finished our latest thriller feature film THE CALLING, which is currently on the film festival circuit and will be streaming in early 2026. We are now in early pre-production stages for our next feature film SUNBURST about a teenage cinephile whose congenital heart defect all-but guarantees he’ll die before he’s thirty, gets tapped to launch a media campaign for Sunburst Cinemas, a dying, independent movie theater, whose antiquated amenities, inept manager, and hapless, rag-tag employees all-but-guarantee it won’t survive the summer. This film has been in the works for over ten years and I’m so excited to get going on it!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The first time I felt truly powerful was on Christmas Day, when I screened my very first short film for my family. They laughed in all the right moments and leaned in with curiosity, asking, “How did you do that?” In that moment, I realized the power films can have to move people, spark wonder, and bring them together. That feeling has stayed with me ever since.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Early on, the thought of not being ready was always a struggle and fear that held me back. But in the film industry and in life, no one is ever truly ready for what’s to come. I’ve learned it’s about diving in, embracing the organized chaos, and doing your best to navigate through it. It has been so rewarding going for it, learning during the process and carrying that into the next project.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I deeply admire Ron Howard (Director/Producer) Growing up in the film industry from such an early age, he’s remained humble and kind throughout his career. His work has made a lasting impact on me—films like A Beautiful Mind and Ransom showcase the drama and authenticity he brings to the screen, and that level of realness continues to inspire me. I even had a rare opportunity of running into him and talking to him and he was everything I hoped he would be, kind.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
The love from my wife Brittany, my curious/outgoing 6 year old son Walter and 4 year old daughter sassy princess, Kensington.
