Reeta Treat shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Reeta, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Creating with physical, tangible components. When your primary work is all digital it can be easy to lose touch with creating art I can touch. When I sit down to play with paper, ink, watercolor, acrylic…these mediums bring me back to my roots in art and I find this piece of me that can get lost.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Reeta Treat and I run a small photography business by the same name, how original eh? I fought against branding my photography with my name for ages! {I’ve operated under several names over the years.} But what I realized in the end was that people remembered my name, but often struggled to remember whatever business name I was working under! So I caved and made my name my brand.
At the moment I’m not pushing in any direction really. I work solely on word of mouth. There are days when I think that I should get out of this coasting business plan and push, but for the most part I am content with both the number of clients I have and the low key nature of this business strategy!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think bonds between people are mostly broken by a lack of honesty, communication and ability to remember that we’re all very human. Transparency goes a long way towards restoring relationships. Be vulnerable, be honest.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. It’s honestly hard for me to imagine that anyone gets through life without almost giving up at some point. Life is challenging. And it’s not like you face one incredible challenge and then it’s all smooth sailing either. I do believe that we get stronger as we go through hard times, but the temptation to give up and pack it in can be very strong.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I can’t imagine how much work it would be to try to keep up some kind of public facade. Much easier to just be authentically myself!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I believe so. I believe I do. The praise of others is an incredibly fickle thing. I might win it one day and lose it the next, so there isn’t much point in basing my best efforts on that! Working hard, giving my best effort when no one knows but myself? That is the meaning of integrity and it’s worth a lot.
