We’re looking forward to introducing you to Abby Imel. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Abby, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Most of my days kick off by checking in on social media and catching up on any DMs or messages I missed overnight. Then I hop into my emails and get myself going for the day. A few times a week, if the weather’s nice, I like to squeeze in a morning walk to reset before diving into work. The rest of my day usually looks like tackling my to-do list, sending confirmations, editing photos, posting on social media, and keeping up with all the behind the scenes tasks that make this business run. By late afternoon, it’s time to pack up my gear and head out for a session somewhere around Colorado. Golden hour shoots are always the highlight of my day. Once I’m back home, I’ll upload the photos, wrap up a few last things, and then call it a night, ready to do it all again tomorrow.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi there, I’m Abby Imel, a Colorado wedding photographer based in Castle Rock, CO. For over five years now, I’ve had the honor of documenting some of life’s most meaningful milestones. From senior portraits and engagements to weddings and maternity sessions, I love creating images that don’t just capture a moment, but preserve a memory you can hold onto for a lifetime.
When I started my business at just 16 years old, I never could have imagined the journey it would take me on. What began as a dream has grown into a calling, and I’m so grateful for the couples, families, and friends who have trusted me with their stories along the way. I’ve been blessed with a community that has encouraged me since the very beginning, and their support has made it possible for me to grow both as a photographer and as a person.
What I love most about photography is getting to step into these once-in-a-lifetime moments, watching them unfold and preserving them through my lens in a way that feels timeless and true. Every story is unique, and being able to capture yours is the greatest joy of what I do.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My mom has always been the entrepreneur I have looked up to throughout my journey in business. She always challenges me in ways of being able to grow my business while also teaching me about how to balance life in it too. Some of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn she has been right by my side guiding me through it, and ultimately is the person I look to when I need advice. Every business she has run, she has given her all to. Her drive, passion, and dedication to the entrepreneurship lifestyle is motivating and continues to push me to reach for more!
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say, “that little toy camera you had in your hands was always there for a reason.”
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
If you asked my closest friends about me, they would say that my faith, my friendships, and my business matter most in my life. They’ve watched me walk through the ups and downs of being a business owner and know how much I’ve grown through challenges I never expected to face. They would probably say that when I need to pause, regroup, or talk things through, I turn to the people I trust most. My friends would describe our bond as one built on loyalty, humility, and open-mindedness, and they know just how deeply I cherish having them in my life.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that when I’m gone people share the drive I had throughout my life to continue to give to others in and out of business. I hope they tell about the sacrifices I’ve made to protect the people I love the most. I hope that through my legacy they can share how hard I worked to get to where I was.
