Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with KayLee Parson of Colorado Springs

We’re looking forward to introducing you to KayLee Parson. Check out our conversation below.

KayLee, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
My art studio is operated by a group of artists in Colorado Springs and in August we designed one of our bathrooms off of the rabbit hole from Alice in Wonderland. The walls have been painted dark green with crooked paneling, hanging furniture, ivy on the ceiling, and silly paintings. It’s just a little surprise to bring you joy as you move through the studio! Putting it together took several weeks and it was fun spending that creative time with my staff. There are some funny art pictures in there that make me laugh and I’m proud of the final product!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I graduated with a fine arts degree in 2013 and went on to teach art in the public school system for 10 years. In 2023 I purchased Painting With A Twist – Colorado Springs East, a paint and sip art studio that brings wine, entertainment, and art together in a fun way! Most of my job is the business administration and event planning, but it’s being in the studio that is my favorite. I love interacting with our customers and spending time with the artists who work for me.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was always an artist. Even as a child, art was my therapy, my passion, and my identity. Thankfully, no one has told me I need to be otherwise and I’ve always been able to pursue creative careers.

Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
I really miss creating fine art for my self. When art is your job, you find yourself creating things other people want or need. Event though I own an art studio, I’m rarely painting! I spend most of my time behind a computer working behind the scenes. I’m also a busy mom who runs two social clubs, so painting has taken a back burner temporarily as I grow my family and this business.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Everything I do is for others. I love taking care of my family, my staff, our community. I served as a public school teacher for 10 years before purchasing my art studio, and still it’s obvious I have a love for creating community and bringing people together in the way I manage my business.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. I don’t do what I do for myself and I don’t need the credit. I truly just want to create a space where others can enjoy themselves and find a love for creative arts and crafts.
