Today we’d like to introduce you to Bea Glassford.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Matthew & I were both involved in the food and beverage industry for decades before we were offered an opportunity to try something new. A friend asked if we would be interested in coming to work for another local roofing company and we accepted. Matthew was a natural at sales and project management and I gravitated to the marketing and admin side of the business. After a few years with that company, we decided to branch out on our own and bring our love of hospitality to the world of roofing. Getting a new roof or dealing with roof damage and repairs can be very stressful and overwhelming. We saw an opportunity to walk with home and business owners during the process that alleviated that stress by utilizing the tools we had acquired during our years in the hospitality business. Being honest, clear with our communication, and respectful of people’s concerns with regards to finances and timelines should be the norm, but we learned that in the construction industry as a whole, it is not. We started just working around our kitchen table from a google drive with licenses in Longmont, Boulder, and Louisville. We do not advertise and we have always been referral only to ensure we have a connection with our clients. We believe we are their partners in the health of their roof and that partnership extends beyond the repair or install. Within a couple of years we had grown to four project managers, a permit & licensing tech, a social media manager, and the two of us with licenses in 27 municipalities along the front range. Our goal has been and continues to be growth in a way that honors the communities we work in and is in line with a healthy work life balance.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have definitely hit some bumps in the road. Learning to balance our family life with our business relationship took some time. It can be tricky to separate the two sometimes. Also, trying to grow a business strictly via referrals and word of mouth can seem defeating when you see other companies around you scaling at a much faster rate through more traditional methods like door knocking or cold calling. We have second guessed our methods multiple times, but we truly believe that good business is built on good relationships and you cannot build those relationships by cold calling or interrupting someon while they are at home by knocking on their door.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are roofers. We specialize in commercial and residential roofing solutions tailored to our client’s individual needs. We are definitely known for being transparent, patient and intentional in our interactions with our clients. Explaining options and estimates in detail and advocating for them with insurance and mortgage companies when necessary. We make it a point to follow up in six month intervals to check in with past clients and offer regular inspections to maintain the health of their roof.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the unique charm that each neighborhood cultivates for itself within the city limits. I absolutely detest driving downtown. I get so turned around by the one way streets.
