Hi Nan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Biscuit Barkery: A Flavorful Adventure for Dogs
Val and Nan, both retired teachers with a passion for dogs and a knack for crafting delightful flavors and textures, believe that our furry friends deserve wholesome and nourishing treats just like humans. This belief inspired us to embark on a baking journey for our pets.
Our Journey
Origins: The Biscuit Barkery began in our home kitchens.
Taste Testing: When our personal canine taste-testers gave us a “paw” of approval, we began selling our biscuits at local Farmer’s Markets.
Growth: As demand increased, our production outgrew our kitchens and families, prompting a move to commercial space.
Current Operations: We now bake four mornings a week with a dedicated team of nine bakers.
Our Commitment
Quality Ingredients: Our biscuits are made from all human-grade ingredients, many of which are sourced locally.
Production: Each batch is hand-cut and produced in small quantities.
Special Offerings
In addition to our biscuits, we also create dog birthday cakes and cupcakes. Recently, our customers have requested that we introduce gender reveal cakes, allowing their pups to join in the “welcome to the world, baby” celebrations!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the most significant challenges we encountered was the COVID-19 pandemic. We had just relocated to our commercial bakery when it hit, forcing us to furlough our bakers and manage with only the two of us. Fortunately, our local community showed tremendous support by placing online orders and meeting us in the parking lot for pickups.
Another major hurdle was the transition from the Farmer’s Market to the commercial building, as our customer base needed to adjust to our new location.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What distinguishes us is our unique, handcrafted dog biscuit recipes, including a specialized CBD line, and the all-natural ingredients that we use. Each biscuit is hand-cut rather than machine-cut, giving them a delightful “homemade” feel. We take great pride in the personal relationships we cultivate with every customer and their pets. These bonds foster a sense of trust from pet owners, leading many online customers to visit us in person with their furry friends, eager to meet us, see our operations, and share their feedback.
