Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Cummins.
Hi Aaron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Sip and Throw was born from a simple idea: creativity should be fun, approachable, and shared. After years of building businesses in Denver, I wanted to create a space where people could relax, connect, and try something new. Pottery has always been a way to slow down and be present, and pairing it with a beverage felt like the perfect way to bring people together.
From the first sketches to opening our studio doors in RiNo, the vision has been clear: make pottery less intimidating and more playful. Sip and Throw is more than a pottery class, it’s a community experience. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, bonding with coworkers, or just looking for a night out, we’ve built a place where everyone can feel welcome to get messy, laugh, and create something with their own hands.
The journey is just getting started, but the heart of Sip and Throw will always be the same: a reminder that creativity is for everyone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Launching Sip and Throw has been an exciting but challenging road. One of the biggest hurdles was navigating city permits, HOA approvals, and construction delays while building out the studio. Every detail mattered, from venting kilns safely to designing a space that felt both creative and welcoming. Financially, it was also a leap, balancing startup costs, staffing, and marketing while ensuring the concept could eventually scale to multiple locations.
On the operations side, integrating systems for bookings, waivers, payments, and customer communication took more trial and error than expected. Finding the right instructors and creating clear training processes also took time, especially to deliver a consistent guest experience.
Despite the challenges, each obstacle has shaped Sip and Throw into a stronger business. The process taught me patience, creativity under pressure, and the importance of community, qualities that continue to guide how we grow and serve our guests.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sip and Throw Pottery Studio ?
Sip and Throw Pottery Studio is all about creativity, connection, and fun. We offer pottery wheel classes paired with a drink of choice, creating a welcoming space where people can relax, try something new, and share an experience together. What sets us apart is the balance of artistry and atmosphere, it’s not just about learning pottery, it’s about making memories. Guests leave with up to two finished pieces, and often with new friends, too.
We’re proud to be Denver’s first dedicated pottery-and-beverage studio and even prouder of the community that’s grown around it. Whether it’s a date night, team bonding, or a birthday celebration, Sip and Throw gives people permission to play, experiment, and enjoy the creative process. Our goal is to make pottery approachable, fun, and inspiring, and to build a brand that makes creativity accessible for everyone.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’d love readers to know that Sip and Throw is more than a pottery studio, it’s a community space. My hope has always been to create an environment where people can step away from their busy lives, sit down at the wheel, and surprise themselves with what they’re capable of making. We see first-time guests light up when they realize they’ve created something with their own two hands, and that feeling is why Sip and Throw exists.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about expanding our offerings to include more specialized classes, family-friendly sessions, and eventually bringing the Sip and Throw experience to new cities through franchising. At the heart of it all, the goal will always be the same: making creativity approachable, joyful, and shared.
