Story & Lesson Highlights with Beth Goltz of Boulder

We recently had the chance to connect with Beth Goltz and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Beth, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
When people hear that I do real estate & design, they almost always assume the design aspect is staging for real estate purposes or interior decorating. I then explain that I went to design school and while I can do interior decorating, I’m usually hired for full interior design work which involves space planning, potential structural changes like taking down walls to reconfigure layouts, creating construction plans in AutoCAD, selecting the building materials/finishes/fixtures, and working with contractors to build a new space. So I do full interior design and I specialize in kitchen & bathroom remodels.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Beth Goltz, and I’m a real estate broker with WK Real Estate as well as the owner of Beth Goltz Real Estate & Design. My business is unique because I combine real estate services with professional interior design services. I help clients buy and sell homes—and offer design services to help a client fully achieve their home goals & aspirations. For instance, if a buyer falls in love with a home but the kitchen doesn’t suit their lifestyle, I help them envision its potential—then, after closing, we can start designing the renovation.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I have always been very creative and when I was younger, I could spend hours working on art projects with no guidelines on what should be done. Cutting up jeans and sewing them into skirts, drawing make-believe houses that realistically would never be able to be built, making friendship bracelets non-stop, finding seashells & painting designs on them, or I’d see art while shopping that inspired me to create my own version with a personal twist. I’d often think: “Why pay for that when I could attempt to do something like that myself?” I was often learning from trial & error verses what is right & wrong and it was a lot of fun.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Speaking in front of groups of people. Before becoming a Realtor, I was in a global marketing role where I had to do presentations in front of decent-sized audiences. The largest one was to a full theatre including many executives in the audience. People always say that the more you practice public speaking, the more comfortable you’ll become—but for me, that comfort has never come. I don’t have to speak in front of groups as much anymore, but it still makes me nervous when I have to.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I won’t give up on my clients! If a listing is slow to sell, a buyer is moving carefully with their purchase, or a design client is very particular with the design selections, that’s completely okay in my opinion. I’ve had clients apologize to me about being picky or slow moving and I always assure them that I want them to feel comfortable & happy with their decisions and not to apologize. Seeing a client happy in their dream home is what brings me joy—no matter how long it takes to get there.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I think my clients would say they miss me making them feel like they were my only client. They miss having someone make them feel that their priorities were my top priorities. And that they miss having someone make a stressful situation (like real estate & design) still feel fun. As one of my clients said: “Beth is a kind and joyful person that helps make what can be a stressful process a lot more fun.”
