Monique Walker of Lowry on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Monique Walker shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Monique, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What battle are you avoiding?
I have recently experienced three bereavements this year. This has been a very heavy year for me. I am more in touch with life than ever before and my soul’s purpose. I have also experienced a divorce this year and have learned the intense battle of self love and self-preservation. It is within my reach to share my voice with others and to be an inspiration for those in a dark space. Each day I battle my emotions and have had to learn how to avoid negativity in the world and from the energy from others. I am encouraged by my resilience that I can overcome any obstacle.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Monique Walker; others recognize me as Monique Esberry. I am currently an insurance executive with Comparion Insurance located in DTC. I am also a business owner of Plant Whisper Dreams.

I am a native of Denver, Colorado, though I have lived in a few other states. In 2016, after being reunited with my son and coming out of a very dismal and toxic relationship, I began my healing journey. During that time I experimented with a formula to regrow my hair and improve my skin. I drew on research skills I developed at the University of Michigan and consultations with an acupuncturist.

When I was two and a half years old, I suffered a terrible third-degree burn on my ear. My mom rushed me to the burn unit, where I spent a few weeks recovering. My right ear was swollen to the size of a saucer and needed time to heal. My mom applied healing plants such as aloe vera, vitamin E, and cocoa butter several times a day. I felt a powerful connection to the aloe vera plant and believed it could communicate with me; it told me that it could heal me. Over the years I developed a strong relationship with that plant. Much later, while still in a toxic relationship, I kept a large aloe vera plant that again seemed to tell me it could heal me. Eventually that plant was killed by someone, but I never forgot its important messages, which led me to create my own formula.

When I escaped that relationship and began working on myself in 2016, I continued developing this organic product, using core ingredients like aloe vera, cocoa butter, and vitamin E, along with other botanicals. A year later I was working at a Taekwondo studio at Flat Irons Mall in Superior, Colorado, when a family approached me with a blanket and said they had found a pigeon lying near the mall. Its wings were twisted and broken; the family said the pigeon had nearly escaped a hawk’s talons. The bird was missing feathers on its back and others kept falling out. I knew I could help save its life.

I took the pigeon home, made a fresh batch of my Healing Waters formula, and applied it to its back with a clean, soft dishcloth, then wrapped the bird in the same towel. Its eyes slowly closed and it relaxed almost instantly. The soothing plant tonic I had created helped save the pigeon’s life. A veterinarian released the bird back into the wild six days later and said no medication was necessary.

Shortly afterward, I helped my uncle treat a severe third-degree burn with the same formula. He had added lighter fluid to presoaked charcoal and his arm caught fire. He said the greasy ointment he had been using only made his arm itch and sting. After he used my Healing Waters, his arm healed over the course of about five and a half months and returned to normal.

I realized that my product did much more than I had expected: Healing Waters could regrow hair as well as restore damaged skin. I spoke with the director of the American Burn Association, who said there was nothing like it on the market.

I felt called to help more animals and people with skin issues. The formula detangles matted coats within minutes, calms pets instantly, and helps restore hot spots and wounds. It is safe for reptiles, birds, horses, and more. I have since developed my brand into a luxury grooming product line and sell to pet groomers across the country.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Since age seven, I have had spiritual dreams about the universe and about people and pets who have passed away. Growing up as a Seventh-day Adventist, I was forced to suppress this part of my life and didn’t understand the dreams’ meaning until much later. Over time I realized I was born to help others and to share my insights to guide them on their life journeys. I am also a writer: I began writing poetry at twelve and soon discovered I enjoyed speaking and acting in front of others. For many years people told me I wouldn’t amount to much if I entered the filmmaking world, but I persisted. I am currently in the process of publishing a book of paranormal short stories entitled The Blue Car. I have learned that I wear many faces and answer to many names; I am not limited to just one identity or calling.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Once I left the abusive relationship that inspired me to create healing products, I decided I would not be defined as a victim but rather be a hero in someone else’s eyes. I stopped feeling ashamed of my past—many people are too afraid to admit they’ve been in abusive relationships or were abused as children. I want others to know they can shift their energy toward empowerment and supporting one another.

After leaving my abusive relationship in 2016, I began a career in insurance, selling Medicare plans with Kaiser Permanente while continuing to develop my brand. That role allowed me to connect with the community and with many pet-owning customers, and it gave me the confidence to grow my business and speak in front of others.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest misconception is that pets must receive steroid injections to treat skin rashes. Many of my pet-parent customers have shared horror stories about steroid treatments and other medications that caused more problems than they solved. I’ve helped animals with severe skin issues see notable improvement within a reasonable time, and some vets have even advised clients against using organic products. Pet owners often feel obliged to stay loyal to their veterinarian, especially after spending substantial sums on care. That said, many organic approaches start with improving a pet’s diet and overall care. Healing Waters is formulated to soothe the skin and support the healing process; many customers report reduced itching, improved coat condition, and faster recovery when it’s used as part of a holistic regimen.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I would build the largest animal sanctuary in the world, eliminating the need for traditional animal shelters. It would be staffed by trained caregivers and security personnel to ensure every animal receives the care and protection it needs. An on-site research facility would keep our programs aligned with the latest industry standards and best practices. I would also design urban infrastructure—safe corridors, overpasses, and other architectural solutions—to allow animals to travel through cities without risking their lives. We have the ingenuity to do this; unfortunately, too often humanity is unwilling to put the planet’s needs first.

Lastly, I would build a system that gives people free healthcare by redistributing wealth and equalizing this so that people are given a chance to live better lives.
