Check Out Victoria Wagner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Wagner.

Hi Victoria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At the age of 19, I took over Kicks Martial Arts on October 10th, 2016. Martial arts has been a lifelong passion, as I’ve trained in it since the age of 7, but running my own studio was an incredible dream come true. Taking over a martial arts studio as a teenager and graduating from Regis University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2017 was no easy feat; my initial goal was to expand immediately, and start opening more martial arts studios around the Denver metro area. The best way to do that was to find a strong, well established business partner with like minded goals. Master Tim Luft was the right fit, and in 2019, Kicks Martial Arts established a relationship with the Colorado Alliance of Martial Arts school system.

Since taking over the studio, we have moved twice, now into a space double the size of where we first started, and are close to doubled in our student count! We have grown to offer programs in Taekwondo, kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, we have after-school programs in multiple schools, and our student age range is from 3-73! Kicks Martial Arts even has state, national and world ranked competitors and instructors, and we’re hosting our second state wide tournament, the Colorado Kicks Invitational, on October 25th of this year, having had 230 competitors at the inaugural event last year.

While it’s been the hardest job I can imagine, teaching others martial arts has and will continue to be my life’s purpose. If I can bestow the self-confidence, discipline, integrity, and indomitable spirit I have learned from martial arts onto my students, I will have succeeded.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life managed to demonstrate that business ownership was the most challenging (and rewarding) thing I would do, at least until 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 initially really slowed down our growth, but it brought the community closer as we chose to train outside in a local park for the entire summer. As the community regained its stability and the pandemic subsided, we saw a huge push for new students to try martial arts, and grew significantly.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am:
– a martial artist, with a 5th Dan in Taekwondo, and a 3rd degree in Kickboxing, awarded by Bill “Superfoot” Wallace.
– also the treasurer for Sport Karate West, a tournament organization established in 2023 to serve the Colorado martial arts community.
– a competitor myself, focusing on traditional kata and point sparring, competing across the country.
– in a magazine already! MA Success Magazine featured me in a story in November 2017, and I also shot with Century Martial Arts in 2021 as an equipment model as well.

What matters most to you?
My students matter the most to me. Martial arts made the biggest impact in my life and knowing that I can bestow that upon others really is the reason why I like doing my job. This job makes me feel like my students are stronger, more confident, and happier because I am in their life, and because they’ve learned how to defend themselves.
