Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Sarah Iverson of Denver

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sarah Iverson. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Sarah, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I am wandering a path — intentionally. I feel like wandering a path allows me to discover newness. As I wander this path, I also invite curiosity, whimsy and spontaneity to accompany me. I do not know where the path will lead me but I do know that, because my wander is heart-led, where ever I end up will be more amazing than if I tried to walk a particular path.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Sarah Iverson, a multi-passionate artist and play-expert, and the founder of Curious Sunshine. At Curious Sunshine, I’m on a mission to help adults rediscover the power of playful thinking in both their personal and professional lives. I teach people how to tap into their creativity and joy through play-based wellness practices, which often blend art, spirituality, and a little bit of fun. As an artist, I create large-scale pieces and immersive installations, design interactive games, and even dabble in clowning and circus arts.

What makes Curious Sunshine unique is the way I weave together creativity, play, and personal development. It’s not just about having fun—it’s about unlocking new perspectives, sparking innovation, and empowering people to embrace what makes them uniquely themselves. Right now, I’m focused on creating experiences and offering coaching programs that inspire individuals to think outside the box and cultivate more joy in their everyday lives

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that I’m ready to release is the habit of playing small and living in fear-based thinking. For a long time, even though I loved being on stage, leading workshops, or diving into something new, I’d hold myself back. I’d stay in the background, speak only when necessary, and shrink my voice—not because I lacked anything to say, but because I feared judgment, criticism, or making a fool of myself.

But I’ve realized there’s no reward in self-dilution. Holding myself back doesn’t serve me—or anyone else. In fact, it’s a disservice to my time, my energy, and to the spaces I inhabit. My presence is just as valuable and worthy as anyone else’s. The energy I bring matters. It can resonate with others, inspire them, and maybe even give them permission to be more fully themselves.

Letting go of that smallness isn’t always easy—sometimes I still feel the pull to blend in. But then I remember: I’m far too weird to blend in… so I might as well be fully, unapologetically me.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self: Don’t listen to the haters, even the ones who are supposed to care about you and support you. The very things you feel self-conscious about now will one day become your greatest strengths. They’ll be what set you apart, what draw your people to you, and what fuel your purpose. So don’t try to blend in. You’re not supposed to. Keep being your fun, playful, bubbly self. Hold your head high, even when it’s hard. You’re meant to do big things by staying true to who you are.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I rarely say these out loud, but they’ve shaped how I live:

I follow what sets my soul on fire, even if it makes zero sense to anyone else. I say yes to a life that’s dynamic and a little risky. Comfort has never been the goal.

I’ve never been one to accept the default or follow the ‘that’s just how it is’ mindset. I believe there are endless ways to live, love, work, and create. The most meaningful paths usually start by questioning the norm.

And above all, I move with integrity. I face hard truths, stay grounded in my values, and refuse to sell out for the sake of complacency.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’d say I’m on the path to doing what I’m meant to do—the path of a play alchemist. For me, a play alchemist is someone who uses the transformative power of play to spark growth, connection, and change. It’s about more than fun; it’s about experimenting, being curious, and turning life itself into a creative lab for healing and evolution. And honestly, the journey of discovering the various ways that can manifest feels like a key part of my purpose. Every time I think I’ve figured it out, something shifts—deepening my perspective and pulling me back into my metaphorical magic lab to integrate new ideas into my work.

There was a time when I followed the path I was told to take, and I was miserable. While I’ve always made choices that supported my joy and wellbeing, my happiness still relied heavily on the validation of others. It took years of deep internal work, practicing radical curiosity, and learning to trust myself before I could begin making choices that truly aligned with what I was born to do.
