Today we’d like to introduce you to Callie Swainson.
Hi Callie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Swain Co. started pretty humbly — with me making fun graphic tees out of my home just for friends and family. I’ve always loved design and creativity, so what began as a little side project quickly grew once I started selling online. The response around the holidays was huge, and before long, local businesses and organizations started reaching out for custom apparel.
As demand grew, so did the vision. I realized I could blend creativity with entrepreneurship and community — creating not just cute tees, but meaningful, high-quality pieces people actually live in. Now, Swain Co. offers a full range of custom apparel, embroidered items, and seasonal collections for families, teams, and businesses.
What really got us to where we are today is heart, hustle, and a whole lot of late nights after the kids went to bed. I’ve built this business with my family right beside me — my husband helping with production, and my kids helping package orders — and that’s what makes it so special. Swain Co. is a brand built on creativity, community, and family, and I’m so proud of how far we’ve come.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road — but I think that’s what makes it all worth it. Running a small business while raising four kids and working full-time hasn’t exactly been easy! There have been plenty of 2 a.m. work sessions, supply chain delays, equipment breakdowns, and moments of total burnout.
One of the biggest challenges early on was figuring out how to scale without losing the personal touch that made people love Swain Co. in the first place. When orders started flooding in, I had to learn fast — everything from production schedules to pricing, branding, and marketing — all while keeping up with custom work and family life.
There were also times I doubted myself or wondered if I could juggle it all, but those hard moments taught me how to stay adaptable and resourceful. Every setback pushed me to find creative solutions and reminded me why I started — to build something meaningful that my family could be proud of.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Swain Co. Designs & Apparel is a Colorado-based small business specializing in custom and retail apparel that’s fun, high-quality, and full of personality. We create everything from graphic tees and embroidered hats to seasonal collections and custom gear for local teams, businesses, and events.
What really sets Swain Co. apart is our mix of style and heart. Every item we make — whether it’s a “mama” crewneck or a custom hat for a local fundraiser — is designed to feel personal, meaningful, and made with care. We’re known for our attention to detail, modern designs, and the cozy, lived-in feel of our apparel.
We also pride ourselves on being made to order — which means every piece is created just for you. Our customers aren’t just buying a product; they’re supporting a dream, a family, and a community. I love that our business has grown from printing tees in our garage to working with local schools, dance studios, and boutiques across the country.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how cohesive and authentic we’ve become. Swain Co. feels like a true reflection of who we are — family-centered, faith-filled, and a little bit bold. We’re more than just shirts and hats — we’re about creating connection, confidence, and community through design.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is creating something that reflects purpose — not just profit. Family, faith, and community are the core of everything I do, both in life and in business. Swain Co. was built around the idea that hard work and heart can coexist — that you can chase big dreams, raise a family, and still stay true to your values.
I want my kids to see that success doesn’t mean perfection or ease — it means showing up with integrity, doing work you’re proud of, and lifting others as you grow. Every order that comes through is a reminder that people believe in what we’re building, and that drives me to keep creating and giving back.
At the end of the day, what matters most is leaving a legacy of kindness, grit, and creativity — and proving that even the smallest, most chaotic beginnings can turn into something beautiful when you lead with heart.
