Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Coventry.
Hi Kim, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was working toward my pHd in Immunology at The University of Massachusetts Medical School, but realized that all the students around me had a passion for their work in the lab, that I simply didn’t. I realized that I wanted to work more directly with people and that the lab environment left me feeling drained instead of excited and energized. I thought about becoming a nurse, but my mom suggested massage therapy instead because there was more hands-on work and the schedule would be less demanding. I went to the Boulder College of Massage Therapy and completed the 1000-hour massage program as well as the Perinatal Massage Certification Program. I love my massage work, especially in my own practice, where I didn’t have to rush clients in and out and could take time to listen to them and to understand their needs and their bodies. In early 2023 my hands became very painful to the point where I had trouble even holding a glass to drink. I was devastated because I loved my work so much and wasn’t able to do it. I was afraid that it may be arthritis and that I wouldn’t be able to do my work again. It gave me time to reflect on what it was about my work that I loved so much. I love providing a place where people feel safe to let go and unwind. I love watching people walking out of my much closer to their true selves than when they came in carrying stress, anxiety and overwhelm. I knew that there was much more to the work that I do than just the physical work, so I wanted to explore energetic work more, which led me to Reiki. During my first Reiki attunement I felt the energy move through my hands and release the pain there and haven’t had any issues with them since. I have experienced deep healing with Reiki that has gone beyond physical healing and I love being a channel for that healing energy for others as well. I now enjoy doing Reiki in addition to my massage work and it a beautiful and healing blend. In addition to being a Reiki Master and Massage Therapist I also love to spend time with my husband and two wonderful boys. My cup gets filled in nature, so you will find me out on the hiking trail as often as I can go or in my gardens at home.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Reiki is still very unfamiliar if not unknown to many people and often people have misconceptions about it. I myself, in the past, had thought it was rather woo-woo, without really knowing much about it or understanding it. I have come to understand that it is anything but “woo-woo”, but is more of a coming home and reconnection to ourselves and the life energy around us. I love sharing about Reiki and have the hope of educating more people on what it is and how it works. Reiki is used in over 800 hospitals in the United States and has been scientifically shown to have astounding benefits for those with anxiety, depression, addiction, pain and many other issues.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Meadowbrook Healing Arts, LLC?
The most important thing for me in my business is to allow people space to be comfortable being themselves. I believe everyone has a beautiful soul that sometimes just gets buried under the trials, stress and expectations put on them in life. My goal is to help them reconnect with their true selves, whether it is through the touch of massage, energy work, or just meeting them where they’re at when they come in my door. I am proud to have been in business for over 15 years now to continue to learn, grow and add skills to my work. I have been trained in Zen Shiatsu, NST, Deep Tissue, Swedish and Infant Massage. I also have completed the full certification program in Perinatal Massage allowing me to work in detail with prenatal, laboring and postpartum mothers. I am a Usui-Holy Fire III® World Peace Reiki Master Teacher and Usui-Holy Fire III® Karuna Reiki Master. I am passionate about teaching others Reiki and am looking to reach more students. Reiki is so simple, yet so powerful and anyone can learn it.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
You can reach me through email, phone or text as well if schedule online if that is easier for you. I am happy to talk with you on the phone to answer any questions you might have. I am working toward growing my massage and Reiki practices, helping Reiki to become better understood and teaching more Reiki classes. I have a goal of creating a community centered multi-modality healing arts center where people can come to heal in nature and receive assistance from a variety of healing practitioners and modalities all in one place. It can be hard to find good places to teach Reiki classes and reach potential Reiki students right now. I would love to hear from you if you have a facility that can host 1-2 Reiki classes a month, or even just here and there. If you are interested in checking out Reiki, or if you are attuned to Reiki and want community and a place to practice, you are welcome to come to our monthly Reiki Share in Longmont. Details for this are on my website and updated regularly.
