Meet Erin Cheong of Jefferson Park & Lakewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Cheong.

Hi Erin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
– Started photography as a hobby back in 2019 and quickly fell in love with it
– Started off with landscapes and nature, then expanded to portraits, fashion, sports, etc where people tend to be the subjects
– Decided to start my own photography & video production company in 2023, focusing on sports, live events & concerts, lifestyle shoots, and drone photos/videos
– Landscapes and nature are still my passion, and I sell those prints as well

Photos and videos have always been my main creative outlet; I love being able to capture the moment, interpret it my way, and share them with those who care enough.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
– At first, it was a lot of work but my drive and passion towards photography helped me power through some of the initial challenges of starting a business and building clientele
– Similar to a lot of creative business owners, I think what stood out as the toughest challenge isn’t executing the work, but generating the client base to work with, especially since I moved to Denver just 5 years ago and had to rebuild my network here
– There are definitely days where I’m taking on shoots that don’t challenge or intrigue me, but it makes it all worth it when the clients are happy with the outcome.
– Photography has also become very saturated, especially for sports, concerts, and live events. Getting an “in” to things has been and will always be tough, but it’s something that’s become easier the more I’ve established myself in this space + word of mouth of my happy customers.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
– I own my photography and video production company (Big Mountains Guy Photography & Video Production) based out of Denver, CO
– We offer photo and video services while specializing in sports, live events & concerts, fashion, lifestyle, and drone photos/videos for real-estate & architecture projects too
– For shoots where the subjects consist of mainly people, I love capturing the exact moment – the raw emotions, movements – and make something that is otherwise forgettable into something permanent, something that the subject can be proud of.
– As someone who’s been a multi-sport athlete my whole life, I have a natural feel to the exact types of shots I want to take for various sports, capturing not just the subject, but also the overall energy of the entire setting.
– And having been part of several video productions for behind-the-scenes documentaries and tour promotions for various artists and bands, I take pride in being able to tell a captivating story through my creativity.

Most importantly, I think what sets me apart becomes obvious when somebody works with me. I’m not sure how to put it into words, but I like to think that I am a very sincere, thoughtful individual who also keeps it very real, very light, and very pleasant to spend time with. I truly enjoy hearing people’s stories and understanding their needs in a deeper way, which also helps me shape my approach, vision, and execution of each project I take on.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Accountability.

– Accountability is composed of many different attributes, such as honesty, quality of work, trust, punctuality, and more.
– I feel the ability to connect with people and proving to them that you can be trusted with their time and money not just once, but repeatedly, are keys to what really sets you up for long-term success.
– The life-long customers, friends, colleagues, etc. that I’ve made throughout my life are all a testament to my values.
