Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Low.
Hi Jason, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
MamaKim started with my mom, Kim — the heart and inspiration behind everything we do. Our family was originally in the spa and wellness business, so creating a restaurant that focused on nourishment and balance felt like a natural extension of that philosophy.
In the beginning, we actually went through three restaurant concepts that didn’t quite work. Each one taught us something new about people, taste, and what “wellness” really means. MamaKim was our first true success — it combined my mom’s passion for healthy living with the comfort and warmth of Malaysian home cooking.
When my mom faced some health concerns, she began eating vegetarian and became deeply aware of how food affects our wellbeing. That perspective shaped every decision we made — from our ingredients to how we designed the dining experience.
Today, MamaKim has grown to 13 locations in Malaysia, 2 in Taiwan, and now 1 here in Denver. Our goal is to share authentic Malaysian flavors with a modern, wellness-driven twist — food that’s not only delicious, but makes you feel good inside and out.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Before MamaKim, we went through three different restaurant concepts that didn’t make it. Each time, we thought we had the formula right — the food, the design, the menu — but something always missed the mark. Looking back, those early failures were actually the foundation of what MamaKim is today.
We learned that food isn’t just about flavor; it’s about purpose. My mom’s health journey became the turning point. She taught us that wellness starts from within, and that if we wanted to build something lasting, every decision — from the ingredients to the energy in the space — had to align with that belief.
The process was humbling. We faced financial setbacks, long hours, and moments of doubt. But it also forced us to grow — to listen, to adapt, and to create something authentic. When we finally opened MamaKim, it felt like everything had come full circle. It wasn’t just another restaurant; it was a reflection of resilience, family, and heart.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
HWG stands for Herbaline Wellness Group, a Malaysian-founded company built on one simple belief — that true wellness comes from harmony between the mind, body, and spirit. What started over 25 years ago as a small facial spa brand has evolved into a complete lifestyle ecosystem of wellness, hospitality, dining, and retail concepts, all designed to help people live more balanced lives.
We’re best known for our facial spa brand, Herbaline, which focuses on natural, non-invasive beauty rooted in wellness. From there, we expanded into Sojourn Spa Hotels, MamaKim Wellness Kitchen, and several other brands like Le G Omakase Dining and Spoon & Spark Dessert House — each created to nourish a different part of the human experience.
Our philosophy is built around the idea of “wellness without compromise” — meaning every detail, from the food we serve to the materials we use in our spaces, is intentionally chosen to align with health, sustainability, and genuine care. We don’t believe in quick fixes or trends; we believe in long-term wellness through consistency and connection.
What sets HWG apart is how integrated everything is. You can have a facial, enjoy a nourishing meal, relax in a spa hotel, and even shop for self-care products — all under one philosophy, one roof, one brand family. It’s an experience that feels holistic, not transactional.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud of our journey from a small family business in Malaysia to now expanding globally, including our newest concepts in the United States. Bringing Malaysian hospitality and wellness culture to Denver through MamaKim Wellness Kitchen and Jalan Spa is not just a business expansion — it’s a dream realized.
What we want readers to know is that HWG isn’t just about beauty or food — it’s about how you feel when you leave. We want every guest to walk away a little lighter, calmer, and more connected to themselves.
How do you define success?
For us, success isn’t just measured by numbers — it’s measured by trust. Our vision is to become the most trusted hospitality and wellness brand in Malaysia, and eventually the world.
We believe true success comes when people walk into any of our spaces — whether it’s a spa, a restaurant, or a hotel — and immediately feel a sense of calm, care, and connection. That feeling of consistency, sincerity, and integrity across every touchpoint is what we strive for every day.
If guests can say, “I trust HWG to make me feel good,” no matter where they are in the world, that’s when we know we’ve succeeded.
