Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Hernandez.
Hi Nate, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Before starting Comfy Castle Heating & Air, I worked as a communications officer with the Colorado State Patrol. I loved the sense of service and teamwork that came with the job, but over time, I felt less than fulfilled with my career path. I wanted to make a difference in a more personal and tangible way — something that would let me help people directly in their homes and communities. That’s when I discovered the HVAC industry. The blend of technical problem-solving and hands-on service immediately drew me in. Every day offered something new — a challenge to diagnose, a system to improve, or a family to help stay comfortable. The more I learned, the more passionate I became.
After working for several larger companies, I noticed a troubling pattern: too much focus on sales and not enough on people. I saw customers being pushed toward repairs or replacements they didn’t really need. That never sat right with me. I wanted to bring back honesty, integrity, and true craftsmanship to the trade — so I started my own business, Comfy Castle Heating & Air.
As an owner-operator, I take great pride in caring for each customer personally. My goal is simple: provide quality service with genuine integrity, treating every home like my own castle. I believe I’m where I am today because of my sincerity, commitment to doing things the right way, and passion for my craft. The HVAC industry is constantly evolving, and I make it a priority to stay sharp, learn continuously, and adapt so I can always deliver the best possible service to my clients.
At Comfy Castle Heating & Air, it’s never just about comfort — it’s about trust, reliability, and keeping the kingdom comfy, one castle at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning, the biggest challenge I faced was simply believing in myself. I didn’t come from a mechanical background — turning wrenches and working with tools wasn’t something I grew up doing. Everything about HVAC was new to me, and I questioned whether I was capable of doing this type of work. I worried I might fail or make costly mistakes. But I was determined to learn. The technical side of the trade fascinated me, and the more I discovered, the more passionate I became. I enrolled in trade school, and I’ll never forget what my instructor — a former HVAC business owner with over 30 years of experience — told us on the first day:
“I don’t care if you have zero experience or ten years in the field. We’re all going to learn this together, at the same pace, and you will succeed.”
That message changed everything for me. It stripped away my fear and gave me confidence that I was exactly where I needed to be. From there, I focused on learning as much as I could and watching talented technicians take what seemed impossible and make it look easy. I wanted to reach — and eventually exceed — that same level of skill and confidence.
That mindset of growth, curiosity, and determination helped me push past early self-doubt and succeed in this industry. Today, I still bring that same drive to my work every day. I’m always learning, always improving, and always striving to deliver the highest level of service to my customers.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Comfy Castle Heating & Air, I specialize in residential heating and cooling service, repair, and installation. As an owner-operator, I’m hands-on with every project — from diagnosing an AC issue to installing a full comfort system. I don’t just fix equipment; I help families create a safe, efficient, and comfortable home. What I’m most known for is my honesty, my craftsmanship, and the personal care I put into every job. My customers trust me because I explain things clearly, take the time to do the job right, and never push services people don’t need. In an industry where high-pressure sales have unfortunately become common, I’ve built my business on integrity and transparency. I believe homeowners deserve real solutions — not sales tactics — and I take pride in being someone they can count on.
I specialize in educating homeowners on their systems so they feel confident and informed, not overwhelmed. Whether it’s seasonal maintenance, a complex repair, or a full system upgrade, I make sure every customer understands their options and what will serve them best long-term. I stay up-to-date on new technologies, efficiency standards, and evolving HVAC regulations to ensure my clients always receive the latest and best solutions for their homes.
I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built in my community and the five-star reputation earned from real customers who appreciate honest service. What sets me apart is simple: I treat every home as if it were my own — with care, respect, and a commitment to excellence. At the end of the day, keeping the kingdom comfy isn’t just a slogan — it’s a promise I live by.
What were you like growing up?
As a child, I was shy and reserved, shaped by a strong Christian upbringing that taught me the value of hard work, honesty, and integrity. I was always the kid who made sure others were doing well before myself. Sports were my outlet — especially baseball. Growing up in Alamosa, where winters are long and frigid, baseball was strictly a spring and summer passion. But I loved it and excelled at it, finding a sense of freedom and focus on the field. I was a pitcher and even threw both a no-hitter and a perfect game during a summer league — small achievements that still mean a lot to me today. Beyond sports, I was the kind of kid who enjoyed having friends from all walks of life and could get along with just about anyone.
