We’re looking forward to introducing you to Bahar Samani. Check out our conversation below.
Bahar, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I was getting into red rocks yesterday and they wouldn’t let me bring my apple in because it wasn’t sliced. So my friend and I took the biggest bites we could and had cheeks full of apple that we could barely chew…
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Bahar Samani and I am the founder of Bahar’s Media and Denver Property Photography. What makes Bahar’s Media unique is the balance of boldness with professionalism. My personal style in art and photography is very dramatic and messy, but most of my clients are brands and event coordinators that need clean imagery. I’ve had to learn to keep it elegant while adding some flavor.
The most important focus for both brands is people. Whether I am videotaping them or working with them as clients, I am in the business of relationships and thorough communication.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Before I answer this I want to say that some bonds don’t need to be maintained. Some should be broken. In these cases two people may have very different expectations of one another and are clashing because of it. Whether it’s friends, colleagues, or partners, some people aren’t on the same page about what their connection or collaboration can look like. Sometimes that can be an amicable break where both parties realize they aren’t aligned.
When bonds are broken that could have been held, usually the problem is a lack of proper communication. Misunderstandings arise, they create resentment, resentment piles until that bond is more hurtful than constructive. What can restore these bonds is conversation, giving each other grace, and a lack of ego. Ego will destroy relationships faster than anything. Needing to be right is almost never as important as listening and being there for someone.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering is so important, but never pretty or comfortable.
In my personal life, it’s taught me which relationships mattered most. When I’ve been at my lowest and most anxious points, there have been people that could see that and could be a safe space for me. There were also people in those times that didn’t bother to approach me with empathy and thoughtfulness. They made me feel nervous and guarded and like I couldn’t be myself.
It also taught me to be more compassionate towards others who are struggling. When I was at my lowest, most people couldn’t tell. It’s important to remember that people make mistakes sometimes because they’re struggling, not because they don’t care or are bad people. It’s always possible that they are in a survival state.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Anyone who is filthy rich that doesn’t show it at all haha. You know the ones… they make millions of dollars and drive a Toyota and are the most humble, kindest people you’ve met. A true measure of a person is how they treat others. Having more, being smarter, more talented, doesn’t nearly make you a better person as how living things feel and are impacted by the way you interact with them. That said, skills and talent and money can in fact be used for good. Those things can all be shared and can multiply the positive impact you have, but whether or not that happens returns again to your core. Not the skills or material things in themselves.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
I will regret working my youth away and never going out and living in these growing periods. Hustle culture is huge in the US. I used to believe to succeed in my business I had to drop everything else, socializing, health, fun, family, but that’s neither true nor healthy.
