Good morning Christian, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Inundated by black coffee, catching up over emails, reaching out new artists, quiet.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Christian Millet, a Peruvian transplant, nomadic, straight-forward thinker, creatively unapologetic, art curator-director, and collector.
Currently, my main objective is Rising Gallery, a street and pop art Gallery in Englewood, Colorado. We are artists working for artists, serving as the liaison between emerging and new collectors, bringing a direct connection between Europe and the United States. Our gallery is not your typical pristine white walls; we are raw and colorful, approachable guides of the scene, teaching and recommending. Is our goal to be impactful and make people fall in love with art.
We are currently showcasing a group exhibition featuring over 200 original, highly collectable pieces of art, all priced at $200 or under. We are also preparing a new calendar of multiple local, regional, and international exhibitions.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I have always been an artist and, like any other artist, fell in between the gaps of society. Money is important; it can be used as a bridge or ladder to do whatever you want. I started painting when I was 7. By the age of 16, I was a writer, actor, and painter, but in my early years, I wanted to be a gardener or a race driver.
At this point, I can’t plant anything that will survive, but I can make you a flower of tinfoil, and I no longer do rally competitions, but if you need a getaway driver, let me know.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
In 2014, I had 3 solo exhibitions and created over 200 pieces of art, all while running a construction company and an art gallery simultaneously. The toll was too much; I shut down the gallery and stopped painting in early 2015. The dream was gone. My creative persona had gone into hibernation. It took a divorce, relocation, and 6 years to get back to where we started.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Generally speaking, yes, as I im not a fan of media disclosure. If you find me online, you won’t find anything personal, and in person, I try to maintain a low-key presence adjusted to my environment of choice. I like small gatherings, private settings.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was here to help in any possible way I could, bringing a voice to people.
