We’re looking forward to introducing you to Hallie Dantzler. Check out our conversation below.
Hallie, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Who are you learning from right now?
Right now I am learning from two local business owners that have taken an interest in helping me succeed. Both of them are incredibly kind and letting me toss a million questions their way all of the time. Both business owners are very successful with two of the largest businesses in their fields in Colorado. I am extremely blessed to be working a long side them and learning from them.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hal’s Coffee is a lifelong dream come true for me, and I couldn’t be more excited to share this adventure with you!
Growing up here in Northern Colorado, I’ve always had an appreciation for sustainability and making the world a better place. I paired those passions with my love for coffee and decided to open my own coffee shop! So here we are!
By using more glass than plastic, recycling and composting as much as possible, and reducing waste overall, Hal’s Coffee is dedicated to making a difference.
I’m also committed to helping my community thrive, which is why I chose local and responsible partners to work with. When I was picking a roaster, the mission behind the company was as important as the quality of coffee. In Bean Cycle, I found both! I love their roasts, and I know you will too! We are also partnered with Compost Queen to properly dispose of all our food scraps and coffee grounds. Of course, few things pair better with coffee than a baked good. We’re excited to work with Bread Chic for our sandwich breads and English muffins, made right down the street from us. Plus, I d’Eclair Pastry provides all of our grab-and-go pastries. Together we are making a difference in the world.
Hal’s Coffee started as a trailer in Fort Collins that we brought to events all across Colorado. We really will do our best to bring great coffee to you! But if you’re looking for a place to sit and relax while you sip, Monday through Friday you’ll find us at the Translational Medicine Institute building on South CSU Campus in the café area. We are excited to serve delicious food and amazing drinks there! Coming very soon is our coffee cart for indoor events that you would want coffee to come to you but without the trailer.
Running your own business is still work, but it’s truly work worth doing, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. We cannot wait to serve you the best cup of coffee in town! See you soon!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Trust.
The lack of trust in someone to do their part will break any bond between people.
However the opposite is also true, an abundance of trust will create and with time restore bonds between people.
Friendships, spouses, coworkers, employees, employers, business partnerships, partnerships of any kind are all based on trust… without it the bond may as well cease to exist.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Something I would tell a younger me is:
It is okay to just do your best and be done, you don’t need to do everyone’s job to make sure that the one reaping the benefits is satisfied. They can see other people’s downfalls and it is not your fault. You did your best.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
As cliche as it sounds I admire Taylor Swift for her character, not her power. I could not care less that she is one of the most famous people in the world. I see her innocence in interviews and her genuine desire to help others. She wants to make a difference in the world and she is. Her power helps for sure because you don’t get anywhere in this world without it but her character is the basis of everything she does. Taylor’s efforts to empower every woman out there is incredible to me.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I was born to make a difference in everyone’s life and that is what I am doing. Every single person I come across is impacted by me. I hope and dream that it is always in a good way. My business is focused on serving and that is where I have the most pride in what I do.
