We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tate Hamilton. Check out our conversation below.
Tate, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Who are you learning from right now?
In my opinion every single person I come in contact with knows “stuff”. Some of that “stuff” I know and some of it I don’t. So, I learn almost daily from other people no matter if they’re 2 years old or 89 years old. I also am a voracious reader of books and documents from fiction to bios and auto-bios, art, economics, the gas and oil industry, agriculture, genetics, ad infinitum. I have a habit that I have incorporated in to my learning and that is to always clarify words and terms I do not know. My view is that it is better to “not know” ( which means eliminating my ego when learning) and therefore learn new things.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an artist/ oil painter and have been working as an artist for over 30 years. My wife and I do the art festival circuit throughout the US which entails applying to the festival, getting juried into the festival, driving there and setting up our booth and talking to people and potential buyers during the festival. I paint cityscapes and people and work mainly from photos that my wife and I take.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
There is no single moment that led me to this belief about how I see the world but; I think that everyone is doing the best they can with the information they currently have available to them and that being flexible, ie; learning new things and information can help a person evolve along their journey. If something is actually working for you, great, if not, it might be time to try something else.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Introversion!!!! I overcame my introversion in my late 40s. I look back on my earlier life and can now see how the many fears I had and discomforts while engaging with other people held back a tremendous amount of my power and ability.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
My wife. She has a lot of intuitive insight and always helps me view things from a different perspective. My son also and my friends.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Reading every book in the world. There’s just not enough time!!
