Hi Sarah, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity means doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. You can always grow, learn, and improve yourself — but true strength lies in choosing honesty, kindness, and respect over actions that harm others.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the owner and founder of Merlan Salon Boutique & Spa.
During one of the most challenging times — the COVID pandemic — I grew my company by 500% while my mother was on a ventilator, all while teaching myself how to market organically. From those difficult beginnings, I’ve built a thriving team of seven passionate professionals who specialize in everything from CoolSculpting, peptides, and hormone therapy to Botox, fillers, and full-spectrum hairstyling services.
I started with nothing — just a 0% credit card and a $20,000 fast loan — and turned it into a thriving, multi-service beauty and wellness destination. Over the years, I’ve learned to restructure, strengthen, and surround myself with individuals who share our vision and values.
At Merlan, our mission is simple yet powerful: to make you look and feel your absolute best. We’ve built a team that not only delivers exceptional results but also uplifts every guest who walks through our doors.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I used to be adventurous, carefree, excited, naive, and full of life — just a kid embracing the world. Tragedy has shaped and hardened parts of who I am, but every now and then, I catch glimpses of that childlike version of myself resurfacing. I’ve grown to appreciate being the kind of person who no longer worries about what others think — and there’s a quiet freedom in that.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I’ve never even come close to giving up. Giving up isn’t an option — if I did, I’d lose everything. I don’t have a safety net, no backing, no family to fall back on — just my own determination to keep pushing forward.
