Today we’d like to introduce you to Duane Ciacco.
Hi Duane, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of creativity, strategy, and communication. After graduating from the University of Denver with dual majors in Mass Communications and Studio Art (with a heavy dose of photography), I jumped into corporate marketing and advertising — eager to blend the analytical and the visual creative. Early on I worked on the client side for large companies (including a major cable-TV provider in Denver and Showtime Networks) where I got to wear a lot of hats and cut my teeth on big campaigns.
Then I made the shift to the agency side — thinking I’d spend a few years there, become a well-rounded corporate marketer, and maybe move back. But once I got deep into agency life I found I couldn’t leave it.
In 2012 I founded Ciacco Consulting — a boutique strategic/creative firm. The goal was to deliver sharp ideas, video and full-spectrum content from strategy through execution — without the typical overhead of larger agencies.
Several years later, in 2018, I co-founded Atomic Idea (alongside my partner Keith Durbin) to address a growing frustration: many clients were using expensive agencies with high overhead or fragmented freelancers, but not the strategic depth plus executional agility they really needed. At Atomic Idea our motto has been to keep our structure lean, our people senior, and the work high-impact.
Today I lead strategy, client partnerships, business development and operations at Atomic Idea. My background across both the client side and agency side gives me a unique view of what marketing teams are juggling — so I aim to be a partner, not just a vendor: someone who understands the internal pressures of marketing leadership and helps build smart, results-driven creative.
Looking ahead, the mission remains the same: help brands matter, work smarter, and execute more effectively. Whether it’s a full-brand repositioning, a new website, a rapid content-build or a video campaign, the goal is always to deliver ideas that live up to the “Atomic” ideal — powerful creative backed by solid strategies.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are always struggles or obstacles to overcome along the journey. In my career, I dealt with a couple of unexpected layoffs, which created some stress. However, it also allowed me to reexamine my life and carer, giving me an opportunity to pivot. It was one of these layoffs that led me to strike out on my own by forming Ciacco Consulting.
Also, running your own company has challenges. there are ups and downs, staffing issues, losing a client, economy impacts and more. I have always approached the obstacles with a positive attitude and looked for ways to come out stronger on the other side.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I do not believe in luck. However I do think that timing and circumstances play a role in the outcome.
