Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Gabriel.
Hi Amy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started drawing when I was young, and that early spark of creativity stayed with me all the way through high school. Over time, I discovered my love for color and naturally gravitated toward painting. It took years of experimenting to find my true artistic style, but now I feel like I’ve finally found myself in my work. That sense of authenticity has opened doors, allowing me to hang my pieces in different spaces around Denver. Sharing my art with the community has been both surreal and motivating. Most of all, I’m deeply grateful that people connect with my work enough to want to purchase it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The path to where I am now has definitely not been smooth. Learning how to start and run my own small business has required endless research, trial and error, and a lot of problem-solving along the way. I quickly realized that being an artist means doing a little bit of everything, whether it is marketing, planning events, building community, or keeping up with social media (and naturally, some of those attempts have failed.) All of these areas are constantly changing, so staying adaptable has been essential. Even with the challenges, every step has pushed me to grow both creatively and professionally.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a painter who specializes in acrylic work, and I am most at home on large premium canvases, using bold and bright colors. I am proud that each new piece pushes my skills further, and I can see real growth every time I create something new. My paintings live somewhere between a daydream and a hangover: vibrant, a little messy, and unapologetic. My goal is to pull people in with color and keep you there for the story. It’s the kind of art that feels like it’s been through something – and came out stronger for it.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is having something in my life that brings me peace, purpose, and a sense of belonging, and art has always been that place. When I paint, it feels less like work and more like returning to myself, which is a feeling I never want to lose. I value the freedom art gives me to explore, to feel, and to create without limits. I want to live a life that is full of color and intention, and staying connected to my art is what keeps me grounded. It will always be my safe space.
