Let’s jump in: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I am walking a VERY windy path. Though I have always had the same ultimate goal of making a living with music, the journey has been tumultuous.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a session singer and topliner. This means that people hiring me sing and write lyrics and melody for their songs. Since I specialize in a variety of genres, I never know what to expect from one client to the next. I may be working on an EDM track that requires very simple vocals with few lyrics, and after that jump into a country track that needs a lot of heartfelt lyrics with strong twangy vocals. I am always kept on my toes!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My parents. I grew up watching both of my parents grow successful businesses on their own. Having two very entrepreneurial parents who worked hard and earned every bit of their success, it’s hard not to want to do the same. They taught me that the harder you work, the luckier you get and that is why I always wanted to be a business owner.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes! A few years back I was so frustrated with the rate at which my career was growing, I wondered if I should be doing something else. I seriously considered culinary school, but one day I woke up and thought, “I have never wanted to do anything else more than sing”. So I snapped out of it!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! I don’t see the point in being different people. You either like me for who I am, or you don’t.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I would hope that when I’m gone, people would talk about my relationships and how I treated others. I try to be the person that those close to me know they can depend on, even in hard times. I also always try to treat everyone as I would like to be treated. I would also hope that people would tell stories of my hard work and drive to live the life that I truly want.
