Meredith, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. Let’s jump in: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I have been afraid to paint on a small format. I was having trouble doing it successfully.
3” round Christmas ornaments have especially been a challenge for me to create however. I have completed 42 orders for these mini pet portraits since October 1. I found that embracing the small surface area available to paint on allowed me to create portraits that I was proud of and that made my customers happy😍
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Meredith. With a love ❤️ for people and pets and a passion for painting-25 years ago I created Lil’ Angel. It has been a journey taking me from gallery showings to owning a brick and mortar pet boutique. I currently can be found popping up at a variety of locations throughout the Denver Metro Area. Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I believed that i could not make a living creating art. From a very young age i knew I was born to be an artist. However I believed i could not support myself and succeed as an artist as an adult. I learned that creating art alone does not make you successful. You need to be successful at marketing yourself and your skills as an artist.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes! I wanted to give up when i was not patient and in the beginning of my journey with Lil’ Angel I felt that i should be getting commissions when noone even knew about me or understood my process. I wanted to give up on the whole idea of pursuing an art career.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that I passionately love animals all animals , but for the rights of domestic animals. Animals don’t have voices so I feel that I try to be the voice of them My closest friends would also say family means a lot to me and I guess finally they would say Art matters a lot to me and constantly educating myself in different ways I can market and grow my art painting better and better and I do this because I grow and grow
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I currently paint commissions. It fills my schedule for my whole year, but I want to switch my focus for 2026 to large scale paintings of pets that include backgrounds currently I do solid color background but I wanna add the actual backgrounds and I want to appeal to galleries and showing galleries and I don’t think that’ll pay off for another 7 to 10 years
