Conversations with Dalton LaFever

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalton LaFever.

Hi Dalton, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got started with music around 1st grade when my parents put me into lessons. It was always kind of some sort of therapy and still is today. Even though I found my enjoyment for music much later. It was never something I pushed to be a part of. I just kept my nose to the grindstone and continued to grow. I took more lessons later to learn music better by ear as I’m classically trained so I learned from sheet music. I started playing professionally around 19 and started playing music with cover bands. I eventually started to write my own music and play with original music bands. Im very versatile with all sorts of music as I enjoy many genres. I joined Dueling pianos and what not as well.

How I got to where I am today is never passing up a opportunity.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never a smooth road. If everything in life was a smooth road you would never learn and grow. Some struggles along the way was trying to be accepted for the musican I am. Trying to fit into a crowd that sometimes does not fit yourself. But I always push thru the challenges from others trying to put my music in a box to breaking out of that box and grow into something new and original in me as the musical artist Dalton LaFever.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a piano player. I’m known for playing music in many different bands. I’m proud that I keep pushing forward and never give up on my dream. What sets me apart from others is my desire and grind out attitude to look as every possible musically situation a opportunity to grow as a man and musican.

What does success mean to you?
To define success is difficult. As everyone has different goals as success. But from a musical standpoint my success would have to be bringing enjoyment and meaningful songs I’ve written and hope they touch someone in some way that they can relate or enjoy my story thru music.
