We recently had the chance to connect with Aleasha Bahr and have shared our conversation below. Many of you may remember our many conversations and collaborations with Aleasha, she is one of the sharpest entrepreneurial minds we have come across through our work at Voyage.
Hi Aleasha, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
The sales industry is filled with myths that cost business owners a ton of time and money.
Here are the biggest ones I see:
1. The “Just Sell It” Myth. Owners assume a new salesperson can just “figure it out” or sell exactly like they do. The truth is sales strategy is a different skill set. It’s like expecting your best player to also be the coach. Most salespeople are great at executing a strategy, not creating one. My job is to pull the genius sales process out of your head, document it, and build your own personal playbook anyone on your team can run and predictably close sales.
2. The “Numbers-Only” Myth. A lot of consultants focus only on strategy and metrics, but they completely ignore the most important part: the words. Messaging and positioning are everything. You need someone who can help you find the exact words that make your ideal client feel seen, understood, and ready to buy.
3. The “One-Size-Fits-All” Myth. This is the most dangerous one. Many consultants just copy-paste what worked for them or another client. That approach will kill your results. My entire philosophy is built on creating a custom strategy that fits your unique business, offer, audience, and personality. Because context impacts results.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Aleasha Bahr is a sales & messaging strategist, speaker, best selling author of Black Sheep Sales: How to Win More Sales without Acting like a Douchebag and founder of the Black Sheep Sales Method™. “Because if it’s a fit, it’s a fact and there’s no selling involved.”
She has always looked like a suburban kid (and now a suburban mom) and, for that reason, it surprises people when she opens her mouth.
Aleasha has always been a Black Sheep in pretty much every way you can imagine and is on a mission to take back the term and turn it into a positive.
She is one of the only sales experts with 15 years of experience creating sales strategies and messaging customized to your offer, audience and personality.
Because of her personality driven approach, her methods make sales much faster by providing powerful alternative to uncomfortable “douchebag sales” strategies.
As a result, they empower business owners and their teams to effortlessly convert up to 80% of their leads without pressure, pitching, or pretending to be someone else.
In her sales career, she and others have sold tens of millions in offers with her proven, personalized approach – The Black Sheep Sales Method.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
This hits hard for sales, but it applies everywhere:
👉 In your relationships.
👉 With yourself (you said you’d do that thing tomorrow).
👉 When your friend hypes up a movie way too much.
Your job isn’t to create hype. It’s to honestly manage expectations.
If you make a mistake – which happens – then it’s owning your part. Suggesting a solution moving forward. And actually following through on what you say next.
It’s not the mistake that breaks the trust. It’s pretending there wasn’t one. Restoring bonds happens from taking responsibility – and then backing it up with different actions that create a different result.
Get that right, and trust follows automatically.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I’ve been a Black Sheep for as long as I can remember. In my family, as a girl, as a woman, a student, a mom, a professional. Pretty much everywhere.
From the outside, I looked “normal.” But the second I opened my mouth, the illusion shattered. I was too direct. Too blunt. Too honest. Too much. I couldn’t pretend things were fine when they weren’t, and that made people uncomfortable. They wanted me to be easier, quieter, to just go with the flow.
For a long time, I believed something was wrong with me.
Then I got into sales consulting and saw the truth. Most advice, especially in sales, is one-size-fits-all. The message is clear: if the system doesn’t work for you, *you* are the problem. I watched brilliant people try to cram themselves into it, fail, and then blame themselves. But the system was always the problem. You don’t need to fit the system; you need a system that fits *you*.
Here’s the thing: progress only exists because some Black Sheep somewhere said, “Wait, what if we tried this instead?” They challenged what was comfortable. They pushed through resistance. That’s how we got science, air travel, and a million other things we now take for granted.
But for every person who pushed through, thousands didn’t. They got quiet. They folded. They made themselves small again, and the world never saw their brilliance. That’s the real tragedy.
So I made a choice. I decided “not fitting in” was my fuel. I turned the term Black Sheep into a badge of honor. Now, I’m on a mission to help other Black Sheep do the same – not just with how they sell, but by bringing their bold, weird, brilliant ideas to life.
Because when people see there’s more than one way to live, work, or lead, that’s when real innovation happens.
The truth is, Black Sheep have the edge. We’re the disruptors and the optimizers, and the world needs that.
That’s why I built the Black Sheep movement. To celebrate each other, lead differently, and make space for what’s new.
Because genius thrives when we stop following the crowd.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. But it was a work in progress.
I used to worry about everything. Annoying people by posting too much. Swearing in my content or using “sales douchebag” in my tagline (my in-laws would find out eventually, right?). Sharing my real views on parenting or politics.
Then I realized it’s all just a filter.
When you show up as your real self, you both attract the right people and you actively repel the wrong ones. It’s a win/win.
Being authentic is all upside. Hiding is the only thing that has a downside.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
The biggest lie we often tell ourselves is that we’ll finally be satisfied when we “arrive.”
For me, the destination was a financial goal. I started making $20k a month as a top salesperson. I had no kids and a tiny mortgage. I had “made it.”
And the feeling was… empty. It was just more money. The relief was temporary, and the restlessness came right back. That’s when I realized the goal wasn’t the money. It was freedom.
So I left my toxic job and built a company on my own terms.
