We recently had the chance to connect with Mallory Kincaid & Cassie Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mallory & Cassie , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
There’s been a common misconception that micro weddings are *budget weddings* or that couples are going small because they have to. That couldn’t be further from the truth! The couples we work with are intentionally choosing smaller celebrations because they value meaning and intimacy. They want something elevated and beautifully designed without the pressure or performance of a big, traditional wedding.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We’re Cassie and Mallory, former teachers turned micro wedding planners and the duo behind Wild Social Micro Weddings. We’re a Colorado based planning and design company that focuses on elevated and intimate micro weddings, stress free packages, and a super unique and streamlined planning process. Our clients usually aren’t interested in a big production; they care about quality time, beautiful details, and an experience that actually feels like them. We’re so proud to be helping couples across Colorado and the Southwest reimagine what a wedding day can actually look and feel like.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before Wild Social, we were both middle school teachers. Our time in Education was incredibly special, meaningful, but also challenging. Entrepreneurship was always a dream in the background. Now that we are here, we fully credit our time in the classroom with being successful business owners. Teaching taught us everything we needed to step into our new roles: how to manage chaos, how to communicate clearly, how to lead with empathy, and how to solve problems fast.
Teachers make incredible entrepreneurs because we’re used to wearing every hat, thinking on our feet, and doing a whole lot with very little.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
In the early stages of Wild Social, we made plenty of mistakes. We trusted the wrong people, assumed everyone had our best interest at heart, and quickly learned that not everyone operates with the same integrity.
But every misstep taught us something invaluable. We learned how to navigate tough situations, found our voices as business owners, and gained the clarity we needed to grow.
Failure forced us to get sharper, braver, and more aligned. Without it, we wouldn’t be running the business we are today. Every hard lesson helped us build something stronger and more true to who we are.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
There’s a growing belief that hustle culture is dead, and while we’re all for boundaries and rest, we don’t buy into the idea that success happens without hard work.
We firmly believe that if you want to build something impactful, something that truly lasts, you have to be willing to put in the long hours, especially in the beginning. We’re not afraid of the hustle. We’re all about doing the hard work now so we can create more freedom, flexibility, and fulfillment down the road.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That we were brave. That we didn’t wait for permission! We bet on ourselves and went for it. We left safe, stable jobs in education that were quietly crushing our spirits, and we built something from nothing.
We hope people say we showed up authentically , worked our asses off, and created a life and a business that felt like ours.
