Daily Inspiration: Meet Heidi Grace Dack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Grace Dack.

Hi Heidi Grace, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, always longing for life on a ranch out West. When I was finally able to fulfill that dream later in life, I fell even more deeply in love with the lifestyle.

On the ranch, I learned how to shape hats using nothing more than a tea kettle, always experimenting and finding ways to make each one my own—adding leather bands, collecting feathers while trail riding, and incorporating unique details along the way. We branded every leather item we owned, turning everyday pieces into something personal and meaningful—an early expression of the craft and creativity that now define Unicorn of the West.

A few years ago, my husband joined the Space Force, and with frequent moves came a new question: How can I bring a piece of the ranch with me wherever I go?

That question became the beginning of Unicorn of the West.

Unicorn of the West is my way of carrying the spirit of the ranch wherever life takes us—and inviting others to do the same. My passion for the West and what it stands for is the reason I started this company. I strive to instill the qualities of the ranch into every piece I create—resilience, beauty, and individuality.

Unicorn of the West’s mission is to make the West accessible to anyone, no matter where you are.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We are often our own worst critics, and that has been my greatest struggle. I hold myself to an extremely high standard, and at times that can lead to burnout. But just like on the ranch, beauty is found in community—and in things not always being perfect. You learn to pivot, be resourceful, and create an environment that is welcoming, resilient, and full of heart.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Unicorn of the West is a traveling hat and leather branding bar, offering a one-of-a-kind experience where guests can design their own distinctive, handcrafted pieces—from curated hat accessories to expertly branded leather—celebrating the artistry and spirit of the West.

I am most proud of the community this business has created. I love meeting both new and familiar faces and creating one-of-a-kind pieces that make people feel beautiful, confident, and uniquely themselves.

What sets Unicorn of the West apart is the passion behind every piece and the genuine desire to create high-quality, handcrafted designs that are both distinctive and accessible. Every creation is made with intention, heart, and a deep respect for the spirit of the West.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is simple, yet unforgettable. I loved building forts in our backyard in North Carolina with my sisters, pretending they were our little homes. We made mud cakes, picked berries, and wandered to the neighbor’s pasture to feed the horse and watch the cows—moments that first sparked my love for the rhythm and beauty of ranch life.
