Meet Kris Travis of Looking For Storage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Travis.

Hi Kris, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my career in the self-storage industry in 2010, working with an owner who operated three facilities in Gunnison and Crested Butte, Colorado. Over time, those properties changed ownership, and most recently were acquired by a Carbondale-based group that also purchased several additional local facilities. I am grateful to have been welcomed onto their team.

At the time I joined, the group was developing Vail Airport Storage in Gypsum, located directly across from Eagle County Regional Airport and adjacent to the Tesla dealership. We are extremely proud of Vail Airport Storage, which is a state-of-the-art facility featuring app-based access for both the gate and individual units. This advanced technology provides a higher level of security than traditional padlock systems, offering our customers enhanced protection for their belongings.

I currently manage Vail Airport Storage alongside my teammate—and daughter—Kylie Travis. Together, we oversee a growing portfolio of 12 properties, with additional locations planned for the future. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a very smooth road. We are a caring team who respect the community and look out for their needs. Small mountain towns can be difficult to find affordable housing, let alone housing with enough space for all of their belongings. A lot of times they are renting and do not have garages. We are there to help them take care of their things in the meantime.

We’ve been impressed with Looking For Storage, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We own and operate self-storage facilities in Gypsum, Gunnison, Crested Butte, Montrose, Moab, and Snowmass. Our team specializes in serving small mountain towns where rental housing is limited and storage needs are often overlooked. Many residents live in rentals without garages or adequate space, and our goal is to provide a practical, reliable solution for storing the belongings that don’t fit at home.

What we want our customers to know most is that we are a local-focused team that truly cares. We prioritize clean, secure, and accessible facilities, and we treat every customer with kindness, respect, and honesty. Our mission is not just to provide storage, but to support the communities we serve by making everyday life in mountain towns a little easier.
