Meet Jaclyn Salts of Front Range

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Salts.

Hi Jaclyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I first became interested in landscape design after witnessing my hometown in California rebuild after a devasting fire. I saw how the landscape could be purposefully designed to be sustainable and protect infrastructure while being in harmony with nature. This led me to attend Colorado State University and after working in Dallas Texas as well as San Diego, I ended up back on the Front Range in 2019. In 2023 I went out on my own with Oaklyn Knoll and haven’t looked back since!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It took sacrifice to start my company. I rented out my place and stayed with family to minimize expenses while I was getting going, but it has been worth it to me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One of the things I really love about my work is the opportunity to work with a bunch of different styles depending on client preference and what is appropriate for their property. It keeps things interesting to bounce between mid-century modern, mountain rustic, and cottage gardens on different projects.

I’m also a consulting arborist with several certifications in addition to my degree to support that. I’m passionate about trees in our landscapes and enjoy working with clients to make sure they have a plan in place for the trees on their properties.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I think collaboration is a key to success. While yes, there is competition, I think there is plenty of work because the business is so niche. Not every designer or company will be appropriate for every client. I really enjoy meeting up with other designers and we support each other on social media. This also helps with the loneliness that sometimes comes with being an entrepreneur.
