Community Highlights: Meet Ryan Gonzalez and Tommy Gonzalez of Forbici Barber Werx

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Gonzalez and Tommy Gonzalez.

Hi Ryan and Tommy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We were both working at the same place in Boulder and, by coincidence, both living in Berthoud. Over time, we shared that the commute had become unsustainable. We were set to look at another place in Berthoud, but it was leased before we could move on it. Within minutes of finding that out, I drove around to see what else was available. That’s when I found the space, saw the “For Rent” sign in the window, and made the call. Shortly after that, I gave Tommy a call to come give this place a look. A few weeks later, we were inside painting, adding trim, and bringing an old space back to life. We signed the lease in April, opened June 1, and it’s been growing steadily since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a smooth road. Running a small business comes with responsibilities—logistics, bookkeeping, ordering supplies, shoveling snow, when it’s necessary—but that’s simply part of the job. Nothing unexpected, nothing dramatic. Overall, it’s been a solid and rewarding experience.

We’ve been impressed with Forbici Barber Werx , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a modern barbershop rooted in old-school standards. Our approach blends the old school barbering principles—precision, cleanliness, and craftsmanship—with a contemporary eye for style and atmosphere. We confidently offer a wide range of haircuts, from classic to modern, and we take pride in executing each service with intention and attention to detail.
What sets us apart is that we never tried to fit the typical barbershop mold, and skill-wise, are always growing and open to growing. The learning required never stops. Instead of copying trends or chasing stereotypes, we built the shop around our own vision and imagination. The result is a space that feels personal, well-kept, and thoughtfully designed—the experience matters just as much as the haircut.
We’re known for our cleanliness, consistency, and the care we put into every client interaction. From the moment someone enters, they’re taken care of—welcomed into a relaxed, respectful environment, offered a complimentary drink (espresso!), and given the time and focus they deserve.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud of staying true to ourselves. We didn’t give in to “barber typicality.” We built something intentional, comfortable, and quietly confident. We want readers to know that this isn’t just a place to get a haircut—it’s a place where details matter, standards are high, and people leave feeling handled with care.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
To us, opening a business is a risk by definition. Quitting a steady job, leaving a guaranteed paycheck, and choosing uncertainty over comfort is a real leap of faith. When we opened the shop, there was no safety net—just belief in the idea, the work ethic to back it up, and the willingness to take responsibility if it didn’t work.
I don’t see risk as recklessness, but as a necessary part of growth. Playing it completely safe can feel secure, but it often stops potential. From our perspective, you have to take meaningful risks from time to time—calculated ones—because that’s where all the big stuff happens. You gotta leave that comfort zone!
