Today we’d like to introduce you to Hailima Yates.
Hi Hailima, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started from experiences many people can relate to in different ways. Growing up, I didn’t have the tools to process harmful experiences or challenge the disparaging messages I internalized. Experiences like exclusion and rejection left me feeling unwanted and unlovable, while messaging—through both media representation and the narratives I was taught in school—shaped how I saw myself and my place in the world.
Over time, that led to low self-esteem and a diminished sense of self-worth. I carried beliefs that I didn’t matter, that I wasn’t enough, and that I wasn’t deserving of joy or good things in life. Those beliefs eventually led me into depression and suicidal ideation.
At a certain point, I realized that continuing to live that way was more painful than the work it would take to change. That moment became a turning point. I began to ask deeper questions about why I saw myself and the world the way I did. Through that process, I started rebuilding self-love and self-trust—intentionally unaccepting the devaluing messages I had believed were my truth and working to heal from the experiences that shaped my non-constructive self-perception and worldview.
That journey didn’t just transform my life—it gave me a sense of purpose. I’ve spent over 25 years doing this work, and in 2017 I founded Luv Mrk to bring it into a more structured, intentional space for both personal and organizational transformation. I wanted to support others in doing that same work: identifying limiting beliefs, healing emotionally, and developing more constructive patterns that support overall well-being—socially, emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially.
That’s why I created Luv Mrk—to promote both personal and professional growth. It’s also rooted in an additional mission: addressing the ways we treat one another. I wanted to not only guide people to stop internalizing mistreatment as a reflection of their worth, but also bring awareness to why we engage in harmful behaviors toward each other—and how we can break those cycles to create more intentional, compassionate ways of relating.
Today, I bring this work to life through my book, workshops, retreats, and programs, creating spaces where individuals and organizations can unaccept limiting beliefs, strengthen self-trust, and build healthier, more intentional ways of relating to themselves and others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Much of my work involves supporting people through transformation, and not everyone is ready for that. When I’m brought into organizations to work with employees or clients, there have been times when I’ve encountered resistance from individuals who don’t feel they need to change or aren’t ready to examine their patterns. That can be challenging, especially when the very things they’re holding onto are affecting their well-being or their relationships.
For example, I’ve worked with individuals who wanted to remain attached to beliefs and behaviors that were making them unhappy because letting them go felt like losing a part of their identity. I’ve also encountered situations where people were unwilling to acknowledge harmful workplace behaviors, which created a hostile environment.
Those moments can be difficult, but they’ve also been some of the most important learning experiences for me. They’ve taught me how to meet people where they are, understand the root of their resistance, and approach transformation in a way that feels accessible rather than threatening. I’m honest and direct in my approach—I don’t avoid addressing challenging patterns—but rather than forcing change, I guide people to recognize what is and isn’t serving them and move toward more constructive patterns.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Luv Mrk (Love Mark) is a transformational development company delivering root-level mindset coaching, workshops, retreats, community events, licensed programs, and media productions designed to elevate individuals, strengthen organizations, and uplift communities nationwide.
Rooted in our mission—Elevating Views. Uplifting Humanity.—Luv Mrk creates immersive experiences that cultivate confidence, dissolve self-doubt, deepen human connection, and support both personal and professional growth.
Our work bridges individual transformation with organizational impact, supporting people in recognizing and unaccepting limiting beliefs and internal narratives that may be negatively shaping how they think, relate, and operate. From there, that awareness translates into meaningful action, healthier relationships, and more intentional ways of operating.
We work across two pathways: personal and organizational development. We partner with businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions, and reentry and recovery programs. On the personal side, we support individuals in strengthening self-awareness, releasing limiting beliefs, and building self-trust, accountability, and aligned action. On the organizational side, we focus on strengthening leadership, communication, culture, and collaboration through experiential, real-world application.
Luv Mrk is not surface-level motivation or performance training—it is experiential transformation that requires reflection, honesty, and a willingness to engage in meaningful internal and relational change. As the founder, I maintain a direct and grounded approach that prioritizes clarity over comfort, while meeting people where they are so growth is accessible and sustainable.
At its core, Luv Mrk focuses on how internal narratives shape behavior, relationships, and environments. The work supports individuals and teams in unaccepting limiting beliefs, strengthening self-trust, and creating healthier ways of thinking, relating, and leading.
What I’m most proud of is witnessing the shift—when individuals and teams begin to see themselves more clearly, and that shift results in more constructive, intentional ways of showing up in every space they’re part of. I’m also proud to have published Dissolving the Anchor and the accompanying 8-week workbook, Dissolve Your Anchor, which provide a structured process for individuals to begin or continue their journey of growth and self-inquiry.
Through keynotes, workshops, retreats, licensed programs, consulting partnerships, and media productions, Luv Mrk creates immersive experiences that move people from insight to intentional growth.
Luv Mrk is for individuals ready for personal breakthroughs, professionals and leaders seeking alignment, organizations focused on culture and performance, and communities committed to growth and connection. Across all spaces, the mission remains the same: creating transformative experiences that move people forward—internally and collectively.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband, Joe, has played a foundational role in my journey. In the early stages of building Luv Mrk, he carried the financial responsibility of our household so I could focus on creating this work. Beyond that, he has been a steady emotional support for me during difficult times—listening to me through moments of disappointment when things didn’t unfold as planned, reminding me of what I’m capable of in moments of doubt, and consistently celebrating every milestone with me, big and small.
My mother was also one of my greatest sources of encouragement and grounding. She would sit with me on the phone or in conversation and truly listen—whether I was navigating difficult emotions or sharing something I was excited about. She offered both encouragement and thoughtful guidance when I needed it, and she always made space for me to feel heard. We lived in different states, but we spoke often and I visited her at least twice a year, so we remained closely connected.
My mother passed a couple of years ago, and it was one of the most difficult experiences of my life. Even in her absence, her presence and influence remain deeply woven into who I am and the way I move through the world.
Both my husband and my mother have been my greatest sources of strength. I am someone who is continuously growing in self-awareness and learning to treat myself and others with love, and while I’ve developed a strong sense of resilience, I still experience moments of doubt. In those moments, I’ve been grateful to have had my mother in my life and to have my husband now—both of whom have supported me in fully feeling what I need to feel, and then gently reminding me to lift my head, steady myself, and keep going.
I’m also deeply grateful for the family, friends, and early supporters who believed in this work from the beginning—those who purchased my book, attended offerings, shared encouragement, and helped me feel seen during the early stages of bringing Luv Mrk into the world.
In addition, the organizations that have trusted me to bring this work into their spaces have played a significant role in the growth of Luv Mrk. Their willingness to engage, invest, and create space for this work has allowed it to expand and evolve. The individuals and teams I’ve worked with—and the reflections, testimonials, and experiences they’ve shared—have not only affirmed the impact of the work but have also contributed to its continued refinement and reach. Collectively, these relationships have shaped both the foundation of Luv Mrk and my continued commitment to doing this work with intention, integrity, and care.
