We recently had the chance to connect with Fatima Alhexia Boylen and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Fatima Alhexia, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I’m most proud of creating that nobody sees is the culture of dignity and respect I nurture every day. Behind the scenes at Boylen Cleaning Services, I focus not just on maintaining clean spaces but on how people feel within them, including my team, our clients, and the wider community. As a Catholic entrepreneur, I have learned that true dignity comes from Jesus, and the simplest way I can reflect His love is through a smile, which is my main way of showing compassion and giving back the love He has shared with me. I first learned this among my loved ones in Guatemala, where even with limited material resources, there was always joy, laughter, and generosity to share with others. Practicing it with them made it instinctive, and over time it has become a habit that extends to everyone I encounter.
Even on days like today, Valentine’s Day, when I reflect on family, love, and meaningful connections, I see how these values shape my work by honoring people’s dignity in every interaction, supporting my team to thrive, and balancing professional success with a life rooted in love, faith, and community. This unseen culture of care and respect is what truly defines the company, and it is what I am most proud to have built.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Fatima Alhexia Boylen and I am the Founder and Owner of Boylen Cleaning Services, a company dedicated to providing commercial, residential, construction, and related cleaning services with professionalism, care, and kindness. What makes our brand unique is not just the quality of our work, but the culture we have built, one that values dignity, respect, and care for every person we work with, whether it’s our clients, our team, or the community.
As a Catholic entrepreneur, my faith guides the way I lead and the way we serve. I strive to create a company where kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail are equally important. We also use our business as a platform for our charity project, “Donaciones a Guatemala”, collecting donations to support Guatemalan families and hosting cultural events in Colorado to celebrate our Guatemalan community. Currently, I am focused on expanding our services, growing our team, and continuing to make a positive impact both locally and in the wider community we serve.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
One of my earliest memories of feeling powerful was when I was six or seven years old, visiting the Mirador Atitlán with my family. It was early in the morning and the wind was blowing through my long hair as I stared at a couple of tourists speaking and gazing at the lake without blinking. My mother noticed me watching them and, with a very kind voice, said, “You can learn to speak English, you can do it!” I can still feel the fire inside me from that moment, a mix of excitement, joy, and determination. I am so lucky to have a picture of that trip that reminds me of this experience. That moment sparked a sense of possibility and confidence that has stayed with me ever since, and here I am giving an interview in English.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
One of the defining challenges of my life began in childhood when I experienced bullying in middle school. Those experiences made me feel insecure, but by high school I realized that I did not want to carry negativity into the world. I made a conscious decision to focus on kindness and respect for others, and over time this choice became a core part of my personality.
This habit of kindness has grown into resilience and has been a guiding force in my professional and personal life. It has helped me build strong relationships, connect with people from all walks of life, and approach challenges with empathy and understanding. One of the reasons I am so happily Catholic is because of my involvement in the youth group “La Comu” in Amatitlán, Guatemala, where God showed me in a very personal way the importance of loving myself. Being kind to others has become a natural reflection of that encounter and continues to shape how I lead, serve, and engage with my community every day.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies my industry tells itself is the idea that cleaning work is unskilled or ordinary. The truth is the opposite. Professional cleaners possess a range of soft skills that are essential in life and in business, but often overlooked. Skills such as attention to detail, responsibility, discipline, strong work ethic, time management, communication, and the ability to handle sensitive or unexpected situations are not simple or common. These are skills that enable cleaners to enter client spaces with trust, manage access and security, adapt to varying environments, and ensure health and safety standards are met.
What some people call “ordinary” is actually extraordinary in how deeply these abilities support relationships, professionalism, and long-term business success. These qualities have helped my team and me connect with clients, lead a trusted team, and build resilience in a company that prides itself on dignity, respect, and service.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Telling my story gives God glory! And I truly believe that says it all. Everything I do in business and in life is guided by the call of God. Boylen Cleaning Services began as a way for me to be a present mom for my daughter while providing for my family, and to be obedient to God’s guidance. As Pope John Paul II said, family is the “domestic church,” and our first responsibility is to our loved ones.
Now, as we celebrate our 10th anniversary in business, we see achievements that go far beyond professional or financial success. We also recognize that failures and mistakes are part of the journey, and they have been valuable teachers along the way. We witness the growth and well-being of each worker and their families, empowered by a culture that honors life. Through our project, Donaciones a Guatemala, we celebrate and strengthen our Guatemalan heritage in the U.S., passing on traditions to younger generations through cultural events, the use of traje típico, and the practice of Mayan languages and Spanish. These are the legacies we hope will endure. I have many goals and dreams for the future, but ultimately, I trust that God will continue to lead the way.
