Meet Sallie Simmons of Realtor with Nostalgic Homes at Compass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sallie Simmons.

Hi Sallie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Denver REALTOR who has spent the past 12 years helping people buy and sell homes throughout the Denver metro area.

I moved to Denver in 2009 and quickly fell in love with the city’s neighborhoods, character, and access to the outdoors. Before real estate, I worked in B2B sales, but I found myself wanting a career where I could build long-term relationships and help people through some of the biggest financial and personal decisions of their lives. I got my real estate license in 2014 and have been doing it ever since.

Today, I work with buyers, sellers, investors, and people navigating major life transitions. I’m known for being direct, responsive, and willing to have the honest conversations that real estate sometimes requires. My clients know they’ll get straightforward advice, strong advocacy, and someone who isn’t afraid to roll up her sleeves and solve problems.

Over the years, I’ve learned that real estate is about much more than houses. Behind every transaction is a story—whether that’s a first-time buyer, a growing family, a downsizer, a relocation, or someone starting over after a major life change. Being trusted to guide people through those moments is my favorite part of the job.

When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me traveling, at a concert, in the gym, or attempting to grow far more tomatoes than any reasonable person needs. I live in Denver with my wife, Virginia, and our Havanese, Tally Bobbie.

After more than a decade in real estate, I still love helping people find the right path forward and proving that experience, honesty, and hard work never go out of style.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think every successful real estate agent would tell you the road has had plenty of twists and turns.

One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to stay consistent through the ups and downs of the market. I’ve been in real estate long enough to experience low inventory markets, bidding wars, rapid appreciation, rising interest rates, market slowdowns, and just about everything in between. Every time the market changes, you have to adapt or risk being left behind.

Another challenge has been adapting to the reality that real estate doesn’t fit neatly into traditional work hours. It’s a business built around people’s lives, which means important decisions often happen on weekends, holidays, vacations, and outside of normal business hours. I’ve helped clients from airport terminals, hotel rooms, Christmas gatherings, and even on the morning of my own wedding. I’ve answered calls late at night while traveling internationally because it happened to be daytime in Colorado. Over time, I’ve come to realize that real estate is less a job and more a lifestyle—one that requires flexibility, commitment, and a genuine desire to be there when people need you most.

I’ve also learned that not every transaction goes smoothly, no matter how hard you work. Deals fall apart. Inspections uncover surprises. Financing changes. Emotions run high. Early in my career, those situations felt personal. Over time, I’ve learned to focus on solving problems instead of dwelling on them. Staying calm when everyone else is stressed has become one of the most valuable skills I’ve developed.

Looking back, every obstacle has made me a better agent. The challenges taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of keeping a long-term perspective. Real estate is ultimately a people business, and the lessons I’ve learned through both the successes and setbacks have helped me better serve my clients and navigate whatever comes next.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Realtor with Nostalgic Homes at Compass?
I own and operate my real estate business in the Denver metro area, helping buyers, sellers, and investors navigate one of the biggest financial decisions they’ll ever make. While I work with a wide variety of clients and property types, I especially enjoy helping people through major life transitions, whether that’s buying a first home, upsizing, downsizing, relocating, investing, or starting a new chapter after a divorce or other significant life event.

What sets me apart is that I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every client, property, and situation is different. My job is to understand what matters most to the person sitting across from me and build a strategy around their goals.

I’m also known for being extremely direct. Real estate is full of people telling clients what they want to hear. I’ve built my business by telling people what they need to hear, even when those conversations are uncomfortable. My clients know I’ll always be honest with them because that’s how you get the best results.

For sellers, I’ve become known for my marketing. The industry has changed dramatically over the last decade, and simply putting a home in the MLS is no longer enough. I combine professional photography, video, social media advertising, targeted digital campaigns, agent-to-agent outreach, and old-fashioned relationship building to create as much exposure as possible for my listings.

What I’m most proud of, though, isn’t a sales number or an award. It’s the fact that so much of my business comes from past clients, referrals, and people who continue to trust me years after we’ve worked together. In an industry built on relationships, that’s something I never take for granted.

More than anything, I want people to know that my brand is built around honesty, hard work, and advocacy. Real estate can be complicated and stressful, but my goal is always to make sure my clients feel informed, supported, and confident throughout the process.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
More recently, I took a significant risk by making major changes in my real estate career. After years of searching for where I truly fit within the industry, I joined Compass and later made the decision to join the Nostalgic Homes team. Both decisions came with uncertainty. Anytime you step away from what’s familiar and choose a new path, there’s no guarantee you’ve made the right choice.

Looking back, joining Nostalgic Homes has been the best decision of my career. For the first time, I feel like I’ve found a place that genuinely feels like home. The team has challenged me to grow professionally while also providing a level of support, collaboration, and encouragement that is rare in a highly competitive industry. Real estate can often feel like a solo sport, but being surrounded by people who celebrate each other’s successes, share knowledge freely, and truly want the best for one another has been invaluable. It has made me a better agent, a better business owner, and reminded me that success doesn’t have to come at the expense of community.
