Check Out Susie Lynn’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susie Lynn.

Hi Susie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my blogging journey in 2019 after spending 13 years as a retail manager. I had a Bachelor’s Degree in English collecting dust, and when my husband asked what I’d actually enjoy doing after becoming a stay-at-home mom, the answer was easy: writing.

Building a blog from scratch is a lot less glamorous than Instagram makes it look. It took years of writing, learning SEO, and talking to what felt like the internet equivalent of an empty room before people finally started showing up. Thankfully, they did. Since then, my work has been featured in publications like Good Housekeeping and Redfin.

These days, a big part of my business is affiliate marketing through my Instagram, @gracebeautyandfbombs, where I share fashion, home décor, and products I genuinely love. It’s been a slow-and-steady climb, but I’ve been incredibly lucky to build a community that trusts my recommendations, and happily enables my shopping addiction.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. For starters, I had absolutely no idea how to build a website, so I spent countless hours watching YouTube tutorials every time I broke something, which was…often.

Everyone says, “Write what you know,” so that’s what I did. My first blogs that gained traction were about traveling with young kids, followed by my husband’s 40th birthday party that I planned. I was determined to prove you could throw a milestone birthday that was masculine, fun, and didn’t involve any cheesy “over the hill” nonsense.

From there, I focused on growing Instagram by sharing my home décor (especially during the holidays), fashion, entertaining ideas, and the occasional hilarious PTO mom story. The biggest challenge wasn’t any one obstacle, it was figuring out what people actually wanted and where I could offer something different. As it turns out, home décor, travel, entertaining, and a healthy dose of sass were the winning combination.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create lifestyle content centered around affordable fashion, home décor, travel, entertaining, and the occasional dose of real-life mom chaos. Whether I’m decorating my house for Christmas, planning a trip to Japan, or throwing a birthday party, my goal is always the same: make it useful, make it attainable, and make people laugh a little along the way.

I’m probably best known for my seasonal home décor, gift guides, travel itineraries, and sharing products I genuinely love. I never recommend something just because it pays a commission. If I wouldn’t spend my own money on it, I’m not asking someone else to.

What I’m most proud of is the community I’ve built. People come back because they know they’re getting honest recommendations, practical ideas, and a little humor, not a perfectly filtered version of life. I think what sets me apart is that I’m just myself. Sometimes that’s polished, sometimes it’s sarcastic, and sometimes it’s me admitting I spent three hours rearranging pumpkins because apparently that’s who I’ve become. Luckily, my followers seem to appreciate all of it. So much of online can be curated and filtered, so I really steer into my “lifestyle without all the filters”.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’d say persistence. My mom loves to tease me because I picked up the clarinet in fourth grade, and then just never quit. I played all through middle school, high school, college, and even after graduation just because I enjoyed it. That’s pretty much my personality in a nutshell. If something matters to me, I stick with it. Forever.

Building a blog and a social media business isn’t an overnight success story. There were plenty of moments where growth was slow, algorithms changed, or something flopped completely. But I’ve never been someone who gives up just because something is hard.

I also think having a sense of humor goes a long way. Life is going to throw plenty of shit your way, and you can either let it defeat you or choose to handle it with a little grace. And maybe a few F-bombs. That’s always been my philosophy, and it’s the heart of my brand.
