Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been an artist for as long as I can remember, beginning with childhood sketches pinned to my grandmother’s door. Over time, that early passion evolved into a professional career, and today I run my own art business. My work primarily focuses on vibrant, colorful paintings and book illustrations, and I have even expanded into textile design. Many people describe my style as inherently joyful, and I strive to ensure each piece expresses my unique surroundings and reflects my life experiences. Today, my art can be found in galleries, fine gift shops, and private homes across the globe.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey had been relatively smooth until my breast cancer diagnosis in 2020. That experience fundamentally transformed my work for the better, reinforcing my belief that art serves as both a form of therapy and a powerful tool for healing. I now use my create skills as an art teacher to those that are currently receiving treatment. I’ve also branched out to teaching art to neurodiverse individuals, 55+ older adults, and those with dementia. Art is for everyone.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have discovered that the true magic in my work emerges when I create from an authentic place rather than for an external audience. My paintings and designs are colorful and joyful, and I find great passion in illustrating stories with hidden details for readers to discover. My career has taught me that staying true to your passion is the most effective way to grow your business and connect with others. Ultimately, I believe art serves a vital purpose; it has the unique power to touch a heart, which I consider to be its greatest gift.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor is simpler than it seems; focus on identifying professionals whose work you truly admire. In my experience, most people are incredibly generous with their knowledge and are happy to discuss their craft. Don’t be shy—reach out, introduce yourself, and let the relationship develop naturally. It takes a village to build a community, and we all thrive when we stay connected.
