Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Hu.
Melody, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a conversation opener, I like to say that I’m “made in Taiwan, designed in Silicon Valley, and seasoned in France.” I’ve lived in 12 cities across four countries on three continents and have traveled to more than 30 countries to date. These experiences have given me the perspective that we inhabit an extraordinary planet shared with all creatures great and small, and I truly hope that we can celebrate our differences and rejoice in our oneness.
Having been raised in a family of strong faith while also experiencing recurring episodes of sleep paralysis throughout my early years, I developed a deep understanding that the world is far greater than our limited perception of it, and our lives can be shaped by introspection, intuition, and imagination. Shaped by experiences across both physical and metaphysical landscapes, I have made it my mission to help raise the collective vibration and build bridges where they’re needed.
Today, I’m happily living my dream, doing all the things I love: raising a family, running a baked goods company, formulating products as an herbalist, offering intuitive readings, and performing on stage and on screen. I guess the throughline in what I do is transformation: raw ingredients into recipes, plants into formulations, perception into guidance, and emotions into performances. Sometimes I find it hard to explain to people what I do, but over time, I’ve realized that I don’t care about defining myself. Jobs and titles are transitory; what’s important is that I’m living my dream life and helping people along the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Growing up in Taiwan, where Christianity is a minority religion, and in a family with divorced parents, I often felt different from those around me. Then, moving between cities and countries, and often being the outsider, I had to learn to pick up subtle cultural cues, find common ground, and navigate unfamiliar environments quickly in order to adapt to new communities.
That training in adaptability also shaped my unconventional professional path through the performing arts, luxury goods, entrepreneurship in food and beverage, and more recently, a new venture in botanically inspired beauty and personal care.
These experiences have deepened my enthusiasm for life. Rather than seeing obstacles as challenges or struggles, I choose to view them as invitations to learn, grow, and discover previously unseen opportunities. Sometimes the road can be rocky, but the only way forward is through.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I think we’re in the midst of a cultural paradigm shift toward a more holistic way of living. Instead of choosing a single career path, I’ve always dreamed of fully living my creative passions while making a living through multiple pursuits. Humans are multidimensional—we want to learn, experiment, explore, and create.
Personally, I’ve always longed for a life that is fully creative and multifaceted. While double-majoring in college, I realized that the career I wanted was the one I’d have to design for myself. Unsure of how to get there, I remember asking a fellow dance major friend what she thought we could do for a career. She replied, simply and nonchalantly, “Do something good for the world.” To this day, I still think that’s the best career advice I’ve ever received.
Today, I feel incredibly grateful to be living that dream. I run Sweet Diplomacy, a special diet-friendly bakery that helps people share sweetness regardless of dietary restrictions. I recently founded Colorado Apothecary Co., where I formulate botanically inspired personal care products while deepening my studies in clinical herbalism. I offer intuitive readings, informed by years of consciousness exploration and intuitive training, to help people find clarity, peace, and wholeness on their journeys. Alongside my entrepreneurial work, I continue to pursue my love of the performing arts through acting, singing, and dancing on stage and on screen.
If twenty-year-old Melody knew this life was possible, she’d be properly thrilled.
