Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Crabtree.
Hi Kimberly , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Photography has been a part of my life ever since I took a photography class as an elective in high school. My mom bought me an inexpensive camera kit, and from that moment on, I was hooked. I wanted to document everything around me. That passion followed me through college, where I continued taking photography electives whenever I could.
After graduating, life took me in a different direction. I worked two jobs to pay off my student loans, and photography naturally had to take a back seat for a while. But a few years later, after becoming debt-free, getting married, and finding out I was pregnant with my son, I realized I had the opportunity to pursue the dream I’d been putting on hold.
Photography gave me the chance to build a career on my own terms—one that would allow me to create my own schedule, spend more time at home with my son, and do something I genuinely love. Just one month after he was born, someone took a chance on me and trusted me to photograph my very first wedding. That experience completely changed everything. I fell in love with capturing such meaningful moments and knew this was exactly what I was meant to do.
Now, as I approach my first full year of Kimberly Sue Photography, I couldn’t be more proud of how far I’ve come. I’ve experienced so much growth in such a short time, and I know this is only the beginning. I’m excited to continue growing my business and, most importantly, to keep documenting some of the most meaningful moments in my couples’ lives.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Imposter syndrome is something I battle with almost every day. I often struggle with the fear of failure and wonder if I started my photography career too late. But time and time again, I’ve been reminded that everyone’s journey looks different, and this is only the beginning of mine.
I have my husband—who also happens to be my best friend—to thank for being my biggest supporter and believing in me, even on the days I doubt myself. His encouragement has given me the confidence to pursue my dream, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I document love through photography. I love telling and capturing love stories through my lens. I specialize in engagement sessions and weddings. I’m known for my soft, bright, natural editing style with a mix of both candid moments as well as some editorial art. I am most proud of the growth I’ve experienced in the past year that has allowed me to be a stay at home momma when I’m not out and about with my camera.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Be genuinely kind and engage with other creatives. As a natural introvert – I’ve learned, you have to intentionally put your self out there and connect. Surround yourself with other creatives that also want to grow and are passionate.
